Like the title suggests, what do you think Nintendo will need to do to keep themselves on top next gen?

First, they will definitely have a head start on the competition, so there's one thing down. I think they need to establish better relationships with third parties. They do have some with the likes of Ubisoft, but I think they need bigger games coming to the Wii U. They also need to work on their online, since the Wii's online with the whole friend codes things was kind of meh. I don't know if it's concrete, but I've heard they are ditching the friends code thing for an overall username like XBL and PSN, right? That would be a great start, but do you think they need something like the achievement/trophy system, too?

well from the talk of the town they'll have a 2yr lead, but is something i seriously doubt.

in short just deliver the better brand and all is well, but if firstparty doesn't make new ip then theres no reason for me to buy the same old nintendo.

also innovative games/exclusives.

Honestly I like the "media center" concept Microsoft is following and I think it does has potential. The company who does it best next gen will get my money and - I believe - win the game.

Oh, and no screen controllers please. What about finally giving motion the attention it deserves?

Launch the Wii U at 250 dollars and with a 2d Mario game. Follow the blue ocean strategy.

Give the people the games they want. End of.

Yeah, I forgot about the stagnant first party IPs of Nintendo. They do sell very well, but they do need to make some new IPs.

A $299 or $250 Wiiu would be a great start. Also have software at launch that actually uses the controller to not just enhance software, but innovate it.
Or just give me a 2d mario and a cool new mariokart...

Focus on strengthening first party instead of putting too much energy into pursuing 3rd parties.

Not release a 0.5 console that won't have the same mass appeal as the last one. The casuals will stick to the wii and handhelds and the hardcore will stick to the 720/ps4/pc. I can't see where the wii U fits in, I have no idea how nintendo is going be significant competition in a few years.

They need to get EA to use the controller to let players draw up their own audibles and change passing routes in Madden 13. Then for the Europeans, and other people of good taste, have the ability to use the touch screen to adjust player positions, formations, offside lines etc in FIFA 13.

That should take care of it.
