Forums - General Discussion - Crossing go-karts and paintball: my idea for an awesome new sport

Ok, so I was at a go-kart track recently, and I saw those two-seaters that can hold a parent driver and their kid, and I thought to myself, "what if you gave the passenger a paintball gun?"

Essentially, it's a real-life racing version of Twisted Metal (minus dead competitors.... hopefully).

Maybe I'm off my rocker here, but who wouldn't watch this sport on TV, or want to play it for that matter?! With the right camera angles, it could be so awesome. You'd have the passenger trying to take out other drivers and passengers, maybe sitting next to his own driver facing forward or in a back-to-back, rear-facing seat like in a Star Wars snowspeeder (OR in some sort of swivel turret behind the driver). Now I just need a good name for it... and several hundred million dollars.

Anyways. I'm a nerd. Your thoughts?

Sounds like fun... although if the driver gets hit in the visor with a paintball they wouldn't be able to see, perhaps it would be better with laser tag setup.... backed up with software so if the passenger gets wounded their weapon has decreased accuracy/range... and if it's possible: when the driver gets wounded the steering becomes heavier, or decreased engine power... And if either get 'killed' then the weapon or kart stop working entirely.

This...would be freaking amazing!

Definitely some good ideas in there. Here's my problem with it:

Watching guys get pelted with paintballs while taking hairpin turns would be way more exciting (imo) than watching guys drive around shooting laser beams at each other. I want to see them getting hit! Physical attacks always make for a more exciting sport (e.g. American football, boxing, etc.).

The way I see it, two things would have to happen in order for a driver to actually get blinded in that manner:

1) You'd have to get lucky, since it would probably be very difficult to shoot someone right in the eye-goggles while riding around on a go-kart

2) The driver's passenger is supposed to protect him! Only a terrible teammate allow his driver to get ravaged by the competition in that manner.

And I think too many complicated rules makes a sport less fun (which is why the NFL is quickly becoming the "No Fun League"). Keeping it simple would also make it easier to get into as a fan. Basically, it's just getting your team and your kart across the finish line in one piece!

Speaking of karts, there would have to be regulations on them obviously, but there should definitely be room for customization. As long as teams adhere to a loose set of criteria for the sake of fairness, they should be able to build their karts however they want as part of their strategy!

Sounds freaken awesome. Though it would be easy to hit a go kart with a paintball gun even at high speeds. The rules would have to be made so that more than just getting hit knocked you out of the match. If you ever played paintball you would know how massive amounts of rounds fly out of the gun and rip people apart that are not in cover.

Could you imagine what would happen if you were hit by one of those high powered paintball guns that leave craters in your flesh while you were driving! Crash, flip, dead!  lol it will be total greatness!

Hey stop being realistic and ruining ourfun.

Oh yes that could kill people they would have to wear full body armor. It would be an extreme sport that would have to be heavily regulted to avoid death and injury. America can get it done, we are good at making the impossible happen.

You are right. We made deep fried ice cream and oreos happen so this is poss. as well!

Really? I thought that was mexican for some reason.

American makes more sense though, the only place with a bigger penchant for deep frying things is Scotland, but it's not warm enough for ice cream there.

As for paintball versus laser tag, I agree paintballing would be more satisfying, I was just ruining the fun thinking of safety. Maybe just give the driver a helmet with a windscreen wiper

There would be no racing, it would be like that mediocre Crash Bandicoot racing game.

Super Mario Kart: Drive-by Edition confirmed!!!
