Forums - Nintendo Discussion - THQ on WiiU: ''much more powerful than the other HD consoles''

Obvious, given that it comes out 6-7 years after the current HD consoles.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

So. Third parties still won't support WiiU no matter how powerful it is.*

Next generation won't be anything like this generation for a few reasons.

1) Wii was a bitch to develop for because it had a weird assed controller.  WiiU controller, screen aside, is a bog-standard dual analog controller.

2) Wii was a bitch to develop for because it couldn't use modern shader tech and didn't have enough RAM. You'd have to build a game from the ground up from scratch to "port".  COD did this because it's a crazily-heavily (and brilliantly) modified Q3 engine, and even then it took a whole a team an extra year to do it. WiiU has modern shaders and tessellation, so even if it's lower res or lower FPS, it'll still run 3rd party games no problem.

3) The PS2 days of 3rd party exclusives are over. If the PS360 didn't teach you guys anything, everything is a port now. It's just too fucking expensive to develop a game and have it for only 1 system.  GTA, FF, you name it.  The only way 3rd parties are going to do exclusives is with a giant pile of cash.

4) You're not going to see much of a difference next generation between systems besides counting pixels.  We've come to a point where games are limited by budgets rather than console power.  I'm not too eager about paying $75 for a game and I imagine a lot of the game buying public isn't, either.

5) Sony and MS might not go crazy on their specs, either.  We haven't see either console yet, but after the thorough financial ass-pounding they took this generation (and last also for MS) they may end up taking a page out of Nintendo's playbook and go for something a bit more realistic.

6) Even if Sony and MS try to Dreamcast the WiiU, they're not going 3rd party.  That's a fucking fanboy's jackoff fantasy and nothing more.

Yes, even in the sad, sad Gamecube years Nintendo was making a lot of profit. Not my graph, someone on neogaf compiled all the financial statements of all the companies and made this.  Sega was shitting money for 7 years or so when the Dreamcast came along, which is why they died out. Nintendo isn't in any peril at all.

NextBox and PS4 can pwn the wiiU spec all they want!.. just like they did with this generation!.. they sure showed nintendos whats what!

Take that nintendos! we are number 2 and 3!
