Forums - Sony Discussion - Is playstation MOVE being discontinued?

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this thread (read the whole thing just now) and that oniyide is amazing. Wow.

Playstation move is dead here. No one talks about it or actually want it. Software sales are just proving it :

Sports Champions = 2,57m

EyePet = 0,94m

The Fight : Lights Out = 0,30m

Start the Party = 0,25m

Zumba Fitness = 0,23m

Racquet Sports = 0,20m

The Shoot = 0,17m

TV Superstar = 0,11m

Michael Jackson The Experience = 0,09m

PlayStation Move Heroes = 0,05m

Kinda sucks because it's way better than 12389 wii games that are selling better.

Can we get  a real table going. Kinect has lots of shitty games that dont' sell either with few notable exceptions. Other than the bundle of Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Dance central there haven't been any Kinect titles selling well either.

those points r true, but that has nothing to do with install base. more motion+s should mean more support. they r still both addons

Again, Wiimotion Plus just adds better tracking to what is already a motion control. Also, its not like the Motion Plus sold amazing on its own. Most people own Motion Plus devices because it was free with games and the console. There was no uproar about it or any big demand for more software.

where the hell have u been, people complain about lack of support for that all the time, but hey maybe its just a few of us. you keep missing the point is that there are alot of motion pluses out there, far more than there are Kinects or Moves so why are those two getting that much more support. it does not matte how the products got in customers hands but that it did and please, WiiSports resort was selling like hot cakes long before it was packaged, fact. Is there any uproar for more Kinect games?? I havent heard any. And its not like Kinect sold amazing on its own, especially considering it wasnt sold on its own, like ever.

thanks?? I just wanna go on record as saying i actually like the Kinect, even though i dont think any of the "core" games will be worth a damn without something extra

1. No actually the point was to make money off shovelware like the wii did. But even the wii can play real games. No kinect doesn't, Move has far more do some research.

2. So you assumed I knew what you meant when you said something completely different? Even if I was a mind reader I  couldn't read someone's mind over the net and even if I could you would've stopped thinking about it when I read your post. I don't see your point not the point about userbase, read much?. Neither device is over a year old, and MS spent hundreds of millions advertising kinect, if that didn't get them a bit of a headstart nothing would but that's all it is a headstart. Again you have no idea how much software move sells since there are dozens of move compatible games that can be play ed without move. In other words you are just guessing. I expect kinect to selling 1/3 of what it did last holiday at best, people just don't want it now that they know it doesn't work.

3. No saying the masses choose kinect is riddiculas and again move is getting more support then kinect how is that being ignored?

Hard to notice a boost when it has move compatible with it from launch and you have no basis for comparison.

Nope just hundreds of millions of advertising and lying about it's capabilities is why it sold.

Nope Kinect just got more sales from advertising 10 times more.

1. Whatever the goal was, it worked better than Sony's.

Anyhow, look at the upcoming Kinect games, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kinect_games

Over 40 games that are either designed for Kinect or have Kinect features. Move has less than 20 coming. Most of the for the Kinect actually require the Kinect as well which helps move the hardware.

2. You just clarified my point, we were clearly on the same page.

I don't know how much software Move is selling, but its obviously not selling a significant amount. Leave it to that.

Advertising a lone doesn't give you record breaking sales. People were genuinely intrigued by Kinect and it blew away expectations.

3. Refer to the link so you can see Kinect has more support. I don't consider games that have added support for Move better support either. That's not the kind of support that sells hardware.

I assure you no amount of advertising could make Move as successful as Kinect. Move is too similar to something else that's cheaper and has better motion games.

@Bolded

I guess you don't know much about Move, but can you please try to be a bit more factually correct? The PS3 has 84 Move enabled games already out http://www.movemodo.com/games and 53 coming soon http://www.movemodo.com/games/soon

That's why no1 can make a game where you can move your character through a 3D world easily and not running into walls well moving slowly in a hallway in the only one that's even kinda done it? Kinect doesn't work as a controler face it.

Of course they did, but what about the R/D and the advertising they are doing now? Kinect sales both hardware and software are slowing down, sure it's a short term victory but it won't last it's already going downhill fast and they just sunk all their studios into it.

Xbox 360 already has something to move your character through a 3D world, its called a joystick and its awesome. Apparently you just want motion technology to play the same old games you've always played. But the goal for Kinect was to deliver something a little more unique and its done that. I'm sorry but ranting at me isn't gonna change the fact that Kinect is a huge hit.

For the record lets look at the top 10 sellers this year.

Top Selling Software in 2011

1 DS Pokémon Black / White Ver... 7,108,552
2 Wii Wii Sports 4,094,602
3 Wii Wii Sports Resort 3,984,521
4 Wii Just Dance 2 3,349,268
5 X360 Kinect Adventures! 3,275,299
6 Wii Wii Fit Plus 2,574,035
7 Wii Zumba Fitness 2,475,641
8 Wii Mario Kart Wii 2,458,375
9 X360 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2,351,398
10 PS3 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2,063,616

Kinect has sold over 3 million units this year. When the holidays come they'll sell millions more as well. Maybe they changed the definition of going "downhill" because it looks like Kinect is doing friggin awesome.

Wow you are delusional. All kinect is good for is posing and frankly a mirror is cheaper. Over 2 million of that was from the tail end of the holiday season. so in one year it sold a mil compared to 10 mil in a few months how is that not downhill?

And yet, over 3million people disagree with you. Kinect works well for what it is supposed to do, it isn't supposed to mimic the Wiimote nor is it a copy of Move, it is something console gaming has never seen before, it is innovative to say the least, and a pretty big sucess. I cannot say the same for Move.

Really, if I were to go to extremes as you have, I would tell you that Move is just another copy of the wiimote, I mean  a controller, WTH? Who cares if it used a camera , it still has buttons and is something you have to hold. Seriously, that is not moving towards the future, that is competing with the past.

Now, see how ridiculouse that is? Please, get a clue and stop wasting everybody's time with your silly arguments, and get a grip on reality.

oh please, you must have forget or purposely want to forget PSeye/eyetoy. Get real no idea is original, all they are are refinements

The eytoy was irrelevant, a flop, and wasn't 3D. It was a glorified webcam and as such, I did not feel the need to list it.

Alright, they put it in more games that work with joysticks than I was aware. Like most people, I wasn't aware because nobody cares about that kind of support.

Unless it gets real support with games built for it, its gonna keep fading into obscurity.

I'm sure his point was a camera has been used for gaming before. But its not even in the same ball park when it comes to capabilities.

But for the record, Eyetoy sold quite well. Developers clearly couldn't do much with it though so it just went away.

I agree with you. It's not doing well enough and unless they make Move only games it's going nowhere. However, you tend to exaggerate. Sure, unlike Kinect, Move has failed to attract much casual market, but there are a lot of people who buy Move games (I have 15). The numbers don't see so great because they are spread through all the available games and there are many psn titles the sales of which we don't know. When I bought a Move, I only bought a psn title (tumble) for the first two months.
