How many years did Microsoft make a deal with them for?

Microsoft owns Rare.

Seriously! I thought it was a Nintendo Rare relationship type of thing. Wow! I guess I need to buy a 360 for myself at some point then!

Why, the studio hasn't made a good game since the first Perfect Dark, and will probably never make a good game again

Well that's just not true. Sure their current releases are not as good as their past games but they are by no means bad.

Oh its the same PR bullshit we hear all the time, nothing new to hear.

Why MS are making rare do Viva Pinata and Kinect Sports is beyond me. I mean they were only the creator of two of the best FPS games of all time:Perfect Dark and Goldeneye. So why not make them create a new exclusive FPS IP, seeing how FPS is the best selling genre on the 360?

how could you not know MS bought/own's Rare? i'm very disapointed!

ot: its sad to see the greatest dev of the 5th gen become the carbon monoxide poisoning of there former selves? i blame MS. and the former owners of this legendary studio that is a legend of its former self.

o i almost forgot to blame the prime suspect and thats Nintendo!

No, blame Sony... they were so successful Nintendo was left with no choice.

lol...

no. that would be to easy.

Just blame the customers. Kameo is imho the best Rare title of all time. And look at the sales data. Disappointing. Kinect Sports is selling awesome. So why shall they return to games like Kameo or Banjo?

How would you respond to old-school Rare fans who feel that the Kinect focus is taking the studio into too much of a "casual gaming" direction?

First of all, fans of Rare are appreciated. We hope that what we're doing with Kinect Sports appeal to people who are first time gamers and life-long gamers. Both. That's why you see us have casual entry modes like "Rookie" and then scale that experience all the way up to "Pro". We really want something in there for everyone. And so I would say if you're a sceptic towards motion gaming; give it a try. Try it with friends, try it with family, see if you have fun. The thing I'm most proud about is that I think we've really hit the sweetspot between having something that works for folks who identify themselves as gamers and folks who've in the past been intimidated by games, really creating a connection point between both.

Will Rare return to the likes of Perfect Dark or Banjo Kazooie any time in the future?

Our obsession right now is how we're going to push the boundaries with Kinect. I'm not going to talk much beyond Kinect Sports right now, but we're very fortunate to have the back catalogue that we do, so stay tuned for more news in the future.

What would you like to see in a next-gen Xbox 720?

I'd like to see us continue to improve making it simpler and simpler for people to feel like they're having a natural experience. So things like voice recognition is a great example. Last year we were doing really simple stuff like saying "Pause" for movie playback. This year we're rolling out an expansive vocabulary around the world. I want it to be literally so natural that you're just talking to your Xbox and It responds to you. I don't think you need a brand new Xbox to do those things. We can innovate with software and services, and I think that will transform the way people interact with their entertainment. You'll see that not only with first party studios like Rare but with the platform as a whole, continuing to invest to make those things possible.

Man this guy is nuts, fans of Rare are appreciated. If fans of Rare are appreciated then Rare has a very interesting way of showing it. Instead of giving the fans the games the fans want they give something totally different. Perfect Dark:Zero was the last game I think Rare made with the fan base in mind.

Banjo-Kazooie was simply Rare had an idea for a new game. But they didn't think the game would sell so they slapped Banjo on it and whoola you've got a hit. That was not showing respect for the fans it showed they just wanted to sell a new game and didn't think a fresh IP would perform as well as a Banjo spin-off.

If Rare truly respected its fans it would create games for its fans. This whole casual thing is not doing anything for the fans and the fans don't like it. The reason Rare is creating Kinect games is they sell very well without the effort it takes to make a proper Banjo or Perfect Dark title. The fact that Kinect Sports outsold every Rare game released on X-Box is nuts and the sales mean more to Rare then the fans do.

Will we ever see another Banjo or Perfect Dark game or any game from Rare's back catalog again? Well that depends on how well Kinect games continue to do. I honestly think Microsoft should out source Rare's back catalog to other developers but lets face it why would Microsoft have Rare developing back catalogue titles when it has been proven they don't sell on X-Box platforms?

Its all greed and I suspect that the Nex-Box will be heavily focused around Kinect controls as well. With no old Rare titles coming any time in the near future. Unless as I said Kinect titles begin to bomb.

Rare doesn't give a shit about fans, they care about money and only money.

Rare doesn't give a shit about fans, they care about money and only money.

To be fair their games were never the same after they left Nintendo. The only ones I played were Kameo and Conquer Reloaded, and both didn't have the charm of Rare's past. To be honest I don't blame Rare nor the fans, I just blame history.

I blame Microsoft, if they hadn't purchased Rare then the leading staff would have remained and they would have gone on creating great games for Nintendo platforms. After Microsoft purchased Rare it was Microsoft's decision to downsize the studio which they did multiple times leading to crappier 360 titles. Finally Microsoft laid off the art direction team at Rare and focused them entirely on Kinect.

The studio was mishandled by Microsoft from the beginning. Also instead of re-launching Conker editted. They should have focused entirely on new titles in their popular franchises. Microsoft should have expanded Rare not downsized them, their should have been a BattleToads, KillerInstinct and the usual titles. We shouldn't have had to wait so long for a Banjo game and that Banjo game should have been a regular platformer.

Rare's whole new direction has been flawed from the beginning. Microsoft if they took over should have left them pretty much independant. It would have worked out far better that way!

'carbon monoxide poisoning' that's a rather long winding statementt coming from you, did you have to google that or something lol, regardless, don't talk trash unless you've played some of their games this gen, and if you had you're realise they're far from poisionous (however the hell a game can be poisonous anyway ...)

you must really like me!

you would be the perfect anti hero if i had to choose one. "hey super Seece? save the girl from the burnning building! naw i think not? she should have never been in there in the first place? yep thats super Seece for ya lol"

trust me you have no idea how long winded i can be. its good old fun to me, but i still like my one linners and attemps to confuse people better then long winded comments.

now Seece you know i careless for kinect games then move games, but hell i don't even know how thats possible considering i hate them both. i need a web cam without 2 glowing flash lights can you help me find one. it also has to cost more then $30 and less then $170 after taxes (american only)lol. (see hwt i did there)?

i guess really its just me missing the old Rare. i'll see wht they have next gen because this gen for me ended months ago.

yea i know its sad here that from the guy saying"this gen should end in 2020" yea its still funny an't it?
