Lol you said the same thing about Crysis 2 and that was not the king. Nearly on par with Killzone but not Uncharted level.

GN and many like it say different

Although it's not really important, not too many sites said Crysis 2 was the best looking console game (although a good few did say it was the best looking title on consoles). Some of the sites you're speaking of said it was the best looking FPS, one of the best, or possibly the best looking . Many more said Killzone 3 was the best looking console game overall.

(I know im making a lot of replies here xD)
I second this. There were far more who claimed Killzone 3 to have set the new benchmark. Not to mention those who did comparisons between the two claimed Killzone 3 to be superior and vastly polished.

Just check out lens of truth >_>

While it’s great to have these types of arguments right before the game releases, let’s not forget that the truth is…Killzone 3 wipes the floor with the Crysis 2 console screens and remains the best looking FPS on a console this generation. check out the comparison and screens."

Yes, the first one. From 2006. 5 Years ago.

oh geeze.. this again.

please read the link you provided, almost all of them either say its one of the best graphically or the best looking FPS. nearly none of them say it the best graphicall game on console.

and if you are using Digital foundry as a trusted source, then why are you claiming Crysis 2 is the best looking, DF made it clear that it wasnt.

Damn bro! Considering Crysis Warhead being on the PC and without DX 11 -> is far better than Crysis 2..
MGS4 IS GRAPHICALLY BETTER THAN CRYSIS 2!

Ign confirms and so did 30 other sites if my memory serves me right!

My sig does not lie

do you realize only one quote from your sig claims crysis 2 is graphics kings.

and do you realize both Digital Foundry and lens of truth proved killzone  look better.

didnt we already go over this 6 month ago when you found out crysis 2 is SD, screen tear, framerate drop nightmare

IGN and many like it were talking about looks not performance

yeah, i dont really want to get into this so i will be done after this post.

but ign isnt credible at all when it comes to analizing graphics. for example the said Mass effect 2 on ps3 was superior graphically to the xbox version.

also Crysis isnt even 720p. and screen tearing and performance has a ton to do with graphics. Battlefield 3 could probably be 1080p if it wanted to but, very other frame would be torn and it would be runing at 10 fps, with the stupidest AI ever

Again you are talking performance not looks

im talking both they go hand in hand, read my last paragraph.

also read Digital foundry, and find out Crysis 2 resolution and it mediocre temperal AA. this is silly now.

I got 10 saying it's the (very) best and 3 or 4 saying it's as impressive as the PC original (unless you want to argue KZ2 looks better than Crysis 1? XD). 1 that says it's the best looking shooter and another flat out saying it looks better than KZ3. So i'd say 15 in it's favour over KZ3

There are no reviews saying KZ3 looks better, only better than KZ2, setting a new benchmark (pre-C2 obviously) or "one of the best". There's one lolworthy comparison by VGC associate LoT based on 2 things - Framerate and Resolution- That's it.

15:1 is pretty final

Um, I just posted a 720p game that supports splitscreen, it's 5 years old. Both its sequels support it too.  2x 640x720p images fills an entire 720p image. Simples. . It is possible, just not possible in Uncharted apparently...Maybe next gen.and i'd serious check some fraps vids for what you called "locked" 30fps, it drops from 30fps to as low as 24-26fps when stressed.

DF have never compared Crysis 2 to Killzone 3 except in referential in regards to 3D methods.

Now I would think that being "in many ways more advanced than anything we've seen elsewhere on console" (this includes KZ3 and all games preceding it) and "cutting edge" as pretty high praise, given KZ3 had barely been out a month. It certainly doesn't lend itself to them making it clear that it wasn't the best looking.

2x 640x720p ??

Hum... So let's take a look at this.  640 is the horizontal resolution and 720 the vertical. We good so far?

So... since both screens are on top of each others, you do this math: 720 + 720 = 1440.  So the game renders more line than what your 1080p screen can display?

What more, it renders more lines in split screen than it does in single player (which is 720p)?

What are you smoking?

Now, just so you know, 358 x 2 = 716 (the resolution of Uncharted 3's splitscreen mode).  That's a much more realistic number if you expect the game to roughly fill a 720p screen in splitscreen.  But the nail in the coffin is the actual difference between the resolution of both games in splitscreen: Uncharted 3 at 838x358 per players compared to Gears of War with 640 x 360 (360 = 720/2) [based on the numbers you provided without source] ...

Uncharted 3's actual rendered pixels: 838 x (358 x 2) = 600008 ...

Gears of War's actual rendered pixels: 640 x (360 x 2) = 460800.

Around the Network

Although I am glad this thread is going well. And to the most part pretty civil, I would like to add comments about the Crysis 2 thing.

Currently based off of the 20 or so websites that claim its the best looking console game etc etc.
It's easy to show reviews from games out before Crysis 2 released and say those games have x,y,z said in the review that makes them the best. But they were never compared to Crysis 2 because it wasnt out then. However considering Crysis 2 is compared to all those games before it and handily beat it across loads of reviews has to make people who care what reviews say is the best take notice.

As for DF, they at no time claimed KZ3 was better graphically. Where people are getting that from is beyond me.
As already pointed out in this thread DF actually claim that Crysis 2 is using effects unseen elsewhere on consoles which obviously includes KZ3. It's doing things technically no other console game before it is/was doing. You can argue that KZ3 performs at a better frequent FPS or has a higher res. But DF do mention Crysis 2's technical accomplishments were much higher than just aiming at 720p. They make it clear it has much larger environments and better effects.

This said thats why DF conclude that Crysis 2 is at the cutting edge of console visuals. Thats there words.

However you view any of the comments around the web is up to you. What I think is niether gonna change someones mind or make me right or you right.

What is a certain is the fact that there is a discussion goes to show Crysis 2 certainly has the attention of being top graphics currently.

Interestingly devs view Crysis 2 as the current cream of the crop.

4A has said they would like to beat Crysis 2 on consoles in the graphics department.

Do I think it will hold out and win this year?

No.

BF3 is looking to good imo. That gif of the window blowing out looks awesome slowed down. And to think those level of effects are capable on a 5 year old 360 for me is great news.

Carry on.

i hate to burst your bubble but crysis 2 wasn't even a good game and yes it's a beautiful game.. but it's no battlefield or uncharted

anyways battlefield 3 is looking amazing :D but right now im edging towards uncharted but battlefield 3 will rule the pc system no doubt about it!

I could really tackle this and correct some errors, but this argument was really in trouble from the minute the topic was derailed so I'll move on to my next piece.

You still have not answered my earlier question: I thought graphics were "null and void" and "you didn't care anymore"? Why now does all that go out the window?

Because it's footage of the Xbox 360 version now.

The whole point of my post above has been missed if you think it can be tackled.

That is my point. Everyone determines words differently, normally to apease there own arguements. Still everyone else can try and make opinion fact. The fact of the matter is noone really knows anything except the devs that make these top games. DF and the like do what many in the industry consider the most basic of tests. Tests that dont determine by any means just how much hardware is being pushed. They themselves admit this in the websites footnote.

So its ironic to me anyway that we use their tests to determine graphical or technical prowess.

On the subject of graphics being null and void. I never actually said that.

What I said was everything basically looks the same to me now at the top except BF3 on PC. Then like 40 mins later I saw this BF3 360 gameplay and was pretty blown away. For me it is that next level of detail and animation and lighting that made me sit up.

And well, because as the thread shows the users of VGC demand this of me.

;))))))

That is unbelieveably good on console. Best there is.

wait... i thought that belonged to Alan Wake... i mean BulletStor... no Crysis 2, wait it Gears of War 3... err i mean Battlefield 3.

whats funny is just earlier today you said  "Graphics are null and void now. Everything looks the same quality to me these days."

so which is it selnor is another Standard Def (though obviously just ever soo slightly) game the graphics king, or do they all look the same. or do they only look the same when ps3 exclusives are mentioned.

by the way Battlefield looks frickin awesome, especially on PC (which obviously blows consoles out of the water), but even though on console it looks great, you can tell they had to scale things back, some things non multiplats wouldnt have to do.

I don't know what to make of these threads anymore. Maybe we should all chip in and send Selnor a PS3 for Xmas?
