I applaud the Wii for its great numbers, but this thread brings up an annoying point for me.....this site just ignores the fact that it undertracks the PS2 by many millions, and they don't even care. The PS2 is at like 152 million sold to customers, for Christ's sake. Wtf man.

Whats' your thoughts on other systems, which system do you think they're over/under tracking? ioi doesn't know where he's under tracking PS2.

I can't wait for your Wii tops 99 million thread. :)

I will do it when it does top 99M during Q4 2012, then 1M later it's at 100M.

Only 88m? I remember reading some predictions here at vgchartz that wii would be way over 100m by now. Where are those idiots now? :D

Hopefully, it can cross 100 million

I'm just waiting for the coveted 100 million milestone, that will look much better than 88 million, or even 98 million, and will officially cement the Wii's legacy as a major success. I still can't believe it has the potential to reach that number when initially I considered merely passing the NES number of 66 million as a major milestone. Sadly though, I don't think it'll ever pass PS2, as it has been somewhat handcuffed by the lack of games both from third parties, and from Nintendo as well lately.. But it will still almost certainly pass the PS1, which is pretty incredible for a home console from Nintendo coming off the flop that is the Gamecube.

Topping the PS2 is the DS's Job, Nintendo expects it to hit 98M end of march 2012, but safely thinking it will do at least 96M which I will be happy with.

The DS may pass it at some point, but I'll wait for the day a home console does it.  That's gonna be crazy.  As for your question, I think the site is pretty decent with 360, PS3, and Wii sales.  I just don't think "we don't know what to do" is a good enough answer.  If they know exact numbers for some territories and are spot on, put the extra sales somewhere else, and then adjust when you find out for sure.

Half this site seems to think DS passed it already, which is just a lie.  It's just dumb.

Well shipped units does not mean sold units Am I right? why should vgchartz update on a bases of shipped units?

Because shipping numbers are accurate and VGC numbers aren't.  Do you really think there are ~10 million PS2s still on retail shelves?  It's not like they don't already update the numbers based off of shipments.  They just don't do it for the PS2.

It's funny really, seeing people taking the piss out of the "it'll top PS2" predictions. When all is said and done, those people are going to be a hell of a lot closer to being correct than any professional analyst was with their sub 20million lifetime predictions.
