Forums - General Discussion - Why does America assume DC and NewYork will always be the next target?

So I noticed with 9/11 being remembered all over the news the media was reporting that the US Government was beefing up security in New York and Washington DC in anticipation of a terror attack. But this got me wondering about the rest of America, their was nothing I didn't hear of heightened security in any other cities, at least not on international media.

So why would Al-Qaida limit itself to just attacking New York and DC? Wouldn't it make much more sense that they would attack another city. I mean to strike fear into American's across the country you don't just hit New York again this time you hit California or Texas or a city in another state.

It would make a lot more sense because the US couldn't possibly secure the entire country on 9/11. If Al-Qaida wanted to have a successful strike it would be smarter to hit a less protected but equally important target elsewhere in the country.

If the reason is because all of the US intel points to attacks on New York and DC, then if true I have to wonder what Al-Qaida is smoking. I can't believe that Al-Qaida would really limit itself to two cities, I'd assume all of America is free game.

So why is it the US Gov only worries about New York and DC? Will it take an attack somewhere else in the country to make the US worry about the rest of the country?

9/11 took the world by surprise, by only focusing on securing New York and DC I think that opens the US up to a future surprise. Everyone will see a terror attack somewhere else in the country and wonder why the Government was so focused on New York and DC!

I assume nothing. My job encourages the belief that anywhere could be the next target. Attacking a sporting event or a mall would do a lot to strike fear into even small town America where people feel safest.

The could hit the city of Angles ...LOS ANGLELES! To strike fear on Latinos as well hehe jk
That's exactly what I have been thinking, they could target any other big city. I remember being in the Wal-Mart headquarters here in Arkansas and they told us they had a data base storage built underground in case they tried targeting them.

If they hit next it'll be the London Olympics, all eyes will be watching and all nations will be there.

Plus the tallest tower in Europe will open right next to the olympics just before. If they somehow got a plane (highly doubt it though) I imagint that would be the target

What makes them think that the terrorists would only strike on 9/11?

New york is considered as the nee Babylon, Horrible thing happen there :p, The funny thing is only 35% of this city Are From New York, and the other 65% is from around the word.

DC is much more of a Symbole, It woulb like exploding the head of the liberty statue, It will be more damaging to the Soul.

To answer your question, its because those two cities are the biggest and most influential targets. Plus there's the shock value of hitting the White House or The Statue of Liberty. I don't think Al Qaida will ever pull off such a well organized attack so successfully again. But it would be just as damaging and frightening to the Nation's psyche if a lone wolf entered an elementary school and spread a cafeteria full of tots with bullets. With as little security as there is in most public schools it wouldn't be too difficult to accomplish.

New York and DC are the only places that matter...New York is the capital of the world and DC is where the president lives...why bother attacking California? Texas could be a target but I don't think a terrorist could even walk around in Texas without getting caught and shot to death by the local people.

Because those two guarantee maximum publicity. Also, preparing for the worst everywhere can't work, no one has enough strength to prepare everywhere and stay strong everywhere.

Also, heightened security everywhere would be pretty inconvenient :P

Why did you say that. I have been worried about attacks on New York, primarily on 1 WTC once it is done, but now I am worried about the Shard too. It is sad that we have to live like this, but I don't know how to avoid any of this
