Forums - Sony Discussion - Anybody else get flickering?

Hey, I only have an SD TV at the moment but all my games have played fine up until now; Ive just bought Oblivion game of the year edition and black flickering occurs when it runs, which is pissing me off to say the least.

Also happens during the GT5 prologue demo, but no other games other than these two...Im getting a HDTV in a few weeks anyway, but is there anyway to solve this so I dont have to leave oblivion sitting around until then?

Is there a frequency mismatch? 50/60Hz?

Nope Ive not touched the frequency settings; unless the game changes it automatically but I dont see why it would...

Some games autodetect the TV frequency and adjust settings. Perhaps it could get it wrong? I don't have a PS3 so can't ask about the system settings.

Try resetting the video? (Hold down the power "button" while turning it on until it beeps and it will reset the video.)

Okay well let me ask a few things. Does the TV hook up through component or composite(some SDTV's have component ins for increased quality) Where are you from and where is your PS3 from? anything recently changed about your TV set up? New equipment possibly or did you plug it into a new outlet?

TV is hooked up through component, Im from the UK as is my PS3 and nothings changed recently, its just happenin with oblivion and GT5 prologue. Other lines appear on other games, but theyre pretty much unnoticable its just this flickering pissing me off.

The TV is around 5 years old now so im anticipating the PS3 is pushing it a little bit, its fine for everything else. Ill just wait for my new TV.

Its the TV, you notice that when a game runs at the beginning it flickers, thats because the game is not made to run at 480i. I have an HD TV and the problem was solved.

I'm gonna have to go with the fact that the games are made to display in higher resolutions as well. If it was happening to every game I'd tell you something is wrong in your TV and you'd be advised to solder it if you were comfortable with that. Seeing as it's only certain things I'm gonna have to go with the simple "It's just not made specifically to work on your TV" Sorry, it's a shame because a majority of people still use SDTV(though maybe not the core audience that typically buys game systems.) I can advise though if you've any speakers resting on next to or direction in front of your TV or PS3 you could try moving them, I doubt that'd be it seeing as again it's only on certain things but its worth a shot.<p>

Edit: You might also wish to try a different set of cables maybe the composite ones that came with the system and see if the problem persists.
