while i was watching my mom die of cancer, i observed her pray alot and put alot of faith in God. you and me dont beleive in such things, but it help her deal with her illness and avoid crushing depression.....so yeah religion is totally useless.

i dont belive in god, but i dont spend my time trying to convince others that the concept is stupid and needs to die off. quit it with the baseless hatred. your are otherwise no better than those religious people who hate on those who arent.

I've never studied much in the spiritual realm, but I've been searching for a belief I could accept as complete, or at least wholesome. Currently my spiritual beliefs revolve around the ideas put forth by Raymond Holliwell in "Working with the Law", but I'm always looking for something that can be even better!

The biggest mistake you're making in your anti-religious shenanigans is you are lumping virtually ALL religions into one.

If you're a true christian you realize its not about "being religious" it's about accepting Jesus into you're heart to become saved and loving on others.

 

Think about it this way. We can't disprove or prove God is real but if you're right and there is no God, Heaven and Hell than no harm no foul for me seeing as I lived a good life. But if you're wrong and there is a God, Heaven and Hell....well you know the consequences if you are wrong.

Just food for thought.

If god loves me so much and still decides to throw me into a pain-filled endless life I will happily give him the finger on my way down :)

You're right God does love you but he gave humans the right to choose so the choice is yours.

Wait Wait.. he jumped to the conclusion there must be something divine because we have consciousness. I jumped to the conclusion god was not real because there is no proof of it.

I was hardly contradicting myself... your blowing my statement out of proportion.

 

I hardly believed something unlikely... I like to think things trough and I have NEVER seen anything supernatural so I see absolutely NO reason why I would believe in it.

I am sorry for your mother but how would this change anything.

 

if my mother was dying I would help her get as comfortable as possible too, I would even pray with her.. but just because that makes her feel better doesn't make me believe in god... It's irrelevant on the whole debate.

 

EDIT: and towards the stop the hatred thing.. I am not hating anyone... I am hating the concept of religion.. noone should take that seriously and I can't help it if people are easily offended. I would never hate someone for being any religion (as long as he does not discriminate anyone).

 

Religion to this day is still one of the main causes of hatred in this world and it has been this way since it started... When has atheism been in war with another belief? Atheists were publicly tortured for blasphemy troughout the 18th and 19th century.

I have seen posts within threads that are sort of contriversial however they never call other users immature, you get banned for calling a user a n00b so calling all athiests or Christians or the user base of VGChartz immature is clearly over stepping the line.

If you see a thread that unfairly targets athiests, report it and post your opinion in the thread. If you read other responses you quickly see I am not alone in this conclusion. Even non-Christian's and non-God believing people know that this thread is unfair and a direct attack on the beliefs of many users.

As for X-Box live motto "God is Great" and "God is not great" both are opinions, but neither should be thread titles. They are offensive to those users who hold different views.

Again this isn't an issue of free speech, its an issue of violating VGChartz policies and acting unproffessional. I wouldn't be as offended if say another user created this thread. I'd still report it and post however the OP is a writer for VGChartz and this thread is a violation of VGChartz policies, its not proffesional or appropriate!

Ok, I hear what you're saying, but we're heading down a very serious and scary path here. I must confess I have not fully read the terms and conditions of VGChartz, however, by it's very nature a public forum attracts differences of opinion. I'm feeling some pretty severe over-sensitivity in this thread alone. Offense seems to be taken from some reletively inoffensive words. It's a disturbing development that has infected all parts of our society, so I guess I shouldn't by surprised to come across it on an internet forum, but, without trying to sound overdramatic, we're in the process of losing some of our most basic freedoms. I'm Scottish by the way, despite that Americanism.

I just wish people could learn to show a little more tolerance towards one another's thoughts, be a little less hostile, maybe even show some restraint.

Anyway, I'm already kicking myself for posting in the first place. I should have known better. So please don't reply to this, if you had any inclination to do so. :)

That's not true at all. That is not applicable to any of the traditions of India. Different practices have different results.

I am not practicing at the moment, but I stayed in a Vaisnava monastary for 3 years (half of that time in India).
