Forums - Sales Discussion - What should doo to stay in the lead?

Xbox 360 is doing very good in America, doing below average in EU and doing pretty bad in Japan. So what does it need keep its current lead? Here are my thoughts:

Amerika:

  1. Lower the price (Hopefully this fall).
  2. Keep pushing out good games in many genres.
  3. Release the big ass black Elite with a lot of black accessories.
  4. Low power/noise version. (Hopefully this summer or fall).

Europa:

  1. Need better brand recognition (Microsoft is not a hot brand).
  2. Low power/noise version. (Hopefully this summer or fall).
  3. Keep pushing out good games in many genres.
  4. Lower the price (Hopefully this fall).

Japan:

  1. Need better brand recognition (better ads. etc.).
  2. Need more games that fit the Japanese taste in games.
  3. Low power/noise version. (Hopefully to get this summer or fall).
  4. Lower the price (Hopefully this fall).

What do you think?

P.S. I'm from Denmark in EU, and I only game on the 360 at the moment.

Edit - what happend to the 360 in the title...

Around the Network

IMO, they could cause Sony and the PS3 some serious damage if they were to lower the price significantly.

In the US, they could reduce the cost of the Premium system from $399 to $299 and the Core from $299 to $249.  And provide a free game with the standard price.

In Europe or in particular the UK, reduce the cost of the Premium system from £279 to £199 and the Core to around £129, again with a free game.

Japan IMO is a lost cause.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

As I was trying to say, I don't think the price, is the most important factor for the 360 in EU and Japan. But of course it always helps. And the moment, I would guess, we only will get a pricedrop of about $50 this fall.

Core: from $299 to $249

Premium: from $399 to $349 (maby $329)

Elite: from $479 to $429 (maby $399)

A few big things:

NA: Drop the price ASAP. If they drop it, they could easily see 1m or 2m more units sold just this year.

Europe: Get more positive PR. MS is not a well-liked company in Europe because it's a mega-corporation, and I don't believe Europeans really like those kinds of companies. A price drop wouldn't hurt the system. Europe has similar tastes as the US in gaming (ala PS2), and the games are relevant to the European marketplace. A major price drop + GTAIV + Halo3 would do wonders, but having better PR and a more positive image than the giant corporation-of-death that MS is would help against a kid-friendly Nintendo and a fun Sony.

Japan: Make more and more inroads with Japanese developers, even if it costs money. If MS secured more deals with Namco-Bandai (think Trusty Bell), Square Enix, and Capcom, they could easily see 10m units sold of the 360. The Japanese WANT the 360, but they WONT buy it until there are some relevant games on the platform. If we saw a major release every month to the degree of a DOA4, Blue Dragon, DOAX2, IdolM@ster and had atleast 2-3 decent games each month, I am certain the 360 could easily do 100,000 units/month consistently (to the tune of what the PS3 is doing, or more).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Release a new model that fixes the hardware flakiness ;)

Drop the price

Bring out a model with the HD-DVD player

Make Xbox Live FREE (completely), or give everyone 3months of free use (or every game bought earns you 1month of free use)
