Forums - Sony Discussion - Insomniac is done with Resistance.

It's always good to test the waters and try different things. I wish more people thought like that in the game industry.

"...have been doing this for a long time - something like 15 years of doing Sony exclusive games - and they're just interested in doing other things."

i never cared for resistance so i'm not all sad to potentially see it die. what i don't like about that sentence though is it sort of implies ratchet and clank will die with it. not that i don't need a break from the series but still want an occasional new release. oh well, i like new IPs too.

It appears Insomniac won't be making another Resistance game after R3.

Here is a sample of the interview:

Gaming Union: "Insomniac seems pretty busy at the moment - Ratchet & Clank is going strong, OverStrike is on the way, etc.. Is Resistance still your flagship franchise? Where does the series fit in the studio's future plans?"

Marcus Smith: "As far as Insomniac goes... you're right. We've got three different games with very different focuses. We're kind of going in a lot of different directions. Ted Price, Alex and Brian Hastings, the owners, have been doing this for a long time - something like 15 years of doing Sony exclusive games - and they're just interested in doing other things."

What does that mean? Insomniac is one of the main reasons I bought a PS3 but if they went with a third party publisher (Multiplat) or went to work on a Nintendo or Microsoft title. Then the PS4 would be a much tougher sell to me.

Although I can't say I wouldn't welcome Insomniac going multiplat or working on another platform. As it would make the decision not to buy a Sony console way easier. Leaving just Naughty Dog since those two developers and their properties are the only reason I have ever bought Sony consoles(pretty much).

Heck Spyro and Crash were the only PlayStation One games I really enjoyed. A loss of Insomniac exclusivity would really hurt my support for Sony. What little support I have is largely based on those two developers and the loss of one would halve that support.

I wonder if this is a misquote or taken out of context. If not Sony should be scared. Unless like Microsoft's loss of Bungie , Insomniac continues to make titles for Sony platforms they just go multiplat or exclusively with another publisher!

Resistance was never a good franchise to begin with, the first one wasn't bad, and 3 likely won't be either.  But 2 killed any chance of the franchise becoming great.

I think that Insomniac West will make Overstrike and work on another Multiplat I.P. for next-gen.

They'll turnover Ratchet to their Insomniac East studio, who are working on All4One right now.  I think we'll see RnC again on the PS4, just probably not as much.  (Maybe 3 year development time?)

Looks like time for Sony to acquire and open up more studios to work on projects :)

good hopefully more will follow so next gen we can have a new crop of featurefull ps3 titles

none of these games are bad there just not great sony needs 2-3 great exclusive games that have that all around package story, gameplay, matching competitions features, and online

Sounds good to me.
To bigger and better, Insomniac!

well like God of War3(everybody said something was missing when jaffe left)and DMC it seems when the original team leaves them game some of the life is gone from the franchise.

i hope this is just a formality of this gen ending cause Sony has more ip coming down the pipeline.

with UC3 likely being the end for Drake or just the end for this gen this shouldn't surprise anyone.

i likely wouldn't play it if anyone else made it.

remember its not that they won't do R4? its that they haven't signed on for R4, and these comments cold be to avoid giving the plot away.

lets not jump the gun to soon. i'll wait for Ted price to say something first. in the statement of them wanting to do new things;he may be refurring to new IP in diferent genres!

Wonder if Sony will get Guriella Games (SP?) on it? Killzone isn't really that much bigger than Resistance franchise, so for them to alternate would be a good idea.

while i agree i hope not.

the game would lack the style and innovation of Insomniac, and after KZ3 which was still pritty good while being disapointing. i'm not sure i trust  Guriella Games to make R4 let alone KZ4.

based on cooments in the past from Ted Price that sortove seems to be the way there going, but at this stage it seems like them and Sony are sending mixed messages.
