I see Mario Kart hitting around 12 million, and Smash 10 million.

To me, MK has a bigger appeal to the casual gamer crowd. Yes, Brawl is at its best when its 4 people going at and is a party game as well. But racing is more accessible then fighting to the casual audience.

I think Mario Kart will be a bigger beneficiary of the Wii install base then SSB:Brawl will be. I think Brawl is a system seller, whereas Mario Kart is not. So I think last generation sales were closer to the actual amount of Brawl fans out there. (since they would buy the GC no matter what) Whereas I think there are much less people who would buy a system just to play MK

Mario Kart Wii. For people drawing comparisons to last gen, remember that mario kart is much more casual friendly than smash bros, and given the wiis casual status, i think it is safe to say that last gens near tie is enough evidence to say mario kart wii will easily outsell it

That said.. we really haven't seen anything at all (sort of) from mario kart, which is a bit of a bummer and also could mean that the game i am so excited for might not even turn out that great

The magic 3 (SMG, SSBB, MK) will sell about the same, a maximum of 2-3 million copies difference in their lifetime sales. All will sell more than 12 million after all is said and done, here are my predictions:

1. SSBB 14.8 million
2. SMG 14.2 million
3. Mario Kart Wii 12.8 million

obviously the mario kart games have sold more overall, as the series stretches back much further, but this is the next smash after the release of melee. Look at the difference between MK 64 and Double Dash, the sales drop some 3 million units, whereas smash has only increased. Also, the game has built a huge amount of hype, for both the casual as well as the hardcore. I don't know an individual who hasn't played smash. They are both going to sell incredibly, but I personally think Smash is going to take the cake.

Mario Kart: (Lifetime) 9.7 million
Brawl: (Lifetime) 12.3 million

Mario Kart Wii, although I expect Brawl to beat both it's predecessors total sales.

Mario Kart Wii will appeal to the casuals who have their Wii's just for Wii sports, everyone knows and loves Mario Kart.

Sure Smash went up and Mario Kart went down, however, Mario Kart: Double Dash was the worst Mario Kart yet.

 There is a reason for that GameCube + MK = 99€ for around 2 years.

I'm so sick of arguing over that one... I LOVED Double Dash, it's my most played game of the last 5 years. Everybody's free to think it's crap, but that's an OPINION, not a fact. I just discovered that I hate Metroid Prime 3, but I still don't say it's the worst game Nintendo ever released. Cause I know it's not, I'm just unable to get into it.

I'm banking on 13m+ for both.
