Somebody here need to try this out.

Everyone single person i know says that xbox live is better, but when you ask why they simply say because everyone is on it and much else to be honest. I'm willing to bet that if just the multiplayer was free on xbox live like the psn then you would see a massive decrease in people actually paying for the subscription.

Sony just need to find a way to emulate ps2 games and release the full catalogue on psn, i think they are already taking other correct steps with the cross platform games like dust and portal 2.

Microsoft is always going to have the better service as it is more popular, at the end of the day thats why you play online

Naturally I disagree. With a few notable exceptions (Bioware games, Bethesda games), I find games perform much better on the PS3 than they do on the Xbox, plus I'm not worried about my PS3 breaking at any given moment, since I still have an Xbox 360, 60 gig Pro model (it makes an awful grinding noise).

I don't play many online games, nor do I play multiplayer all that often, so I could care less about how 'superior' xbox live is. Personally, I'd rather spend that 60 bucks a year on another AAA title than playing online. besides, PC does it better and PC does it free. PS3 does just fine and it's free as well. Sure, there's no cross game chat, but I really don't care about that.

While the online multiplayer is better on 360, you pay for it. actual performance is better on PS3 with some exceptions.

That's not what this discussion is about though, it's about who has the best cross-platform experience, meaning who has the best experience when go across platforms. Sony has PSN on both the PS3 and PSP for example, where Microsoft has XBL on both the 360 and WP7.

I would never, ever purchase the $199 Xbox.  That being said, the PS3 is currently $249 and the 360 is $299.  On top of that, you will be paying $50 per year for Xbox Live.  if you have the console for 5 years, you are paying $549 for the Xbox 360, and still just $249 for the PS3.

Dam, it really is such a hard choice.  Do I want to spend $249, or spend $549 so I can get a stupid CoD map pack 1 month earlier and have cross game chat.

Simply saying one service is more popular is sort of a debatable topic.

While certain games (such as CoD) have more people on at a time on Xbox Live versus PSN, the total number of PSN accounts blows Xbox Live away.

There are 77 million PSN accounts, and only 35 million Xbox Live (Gold and Silver) accounts.

Unfortunately, there isn't really enough data to conclusively determine whether one system's online service is more popular (for all we know, the total number of psn users playing online at any given time might be 50% higher than 360 users online across all games)

Who pays full price for live? I surely don't.

plus cross game chat, party system, more headsets on Live then PSN, and overall having friends and what they are doing more accessible then PSN ever will be.
