This conversation/argument is funny as hell.

The best example I can come up with right now is St. Odo of Cluny, a Catholic saint, and his work Collationum Libri Tres. In that book (page 133) he  sais that beyond women's appearent grace, they have dirtiness inside them, and since men do their best to avoid touching vomit and munure with even their fingertips, why would they even want to hold in their arms a pathetic bag of excrements (i.e., a woman). If you check out the works of all proeminent Christian thinkers and personalities back then, you'll see that they all had similar views.

Are you essentially saying that there were no Christians back then? 'Cause this was the view shared by pretty much all Crhistians back then, especially people like important Chruch figures or saints.

And the whole 'they aren't inferior, they have different roles' is quite convenient when men are the ones who hold all the power, and women need men to survive. They have different roles, just the roles aren't equally good. Not to mention that those roles are based on socially constructed gender roles, that do not take into account people's aptitudes and desires.

That's only because the law doesn't allow them to do that. For example, you can't do that in Turkey, which is a predominantly Muslim country. The reason is because Turkey is a secular country, and not a theocracy, like Iran or Saudi Arabia. You can be sure that if the US were a theocracy you'd see Baptists stoning people to death etc. Secularism is the reason why the West is a nice place to live in, and it's also the reason why Christians don't go around punishing people Bible-style.

Yeah, but what about your relationship with non-muslims? Religion works at unifying people on a local level, but it's certainly not what's gonna bring about world peace.

Which may not be that off, considering that the more conservative states in the US are also the ones more likely to require wellfare and other forms of social help.

There was a cult I read about in Iraq.

They believe that Satan is God and God is Satan. That Satan over through God and sent him to hell, and that God was at war trying to reclaim heaven.

Something like that. I was totally baffled. I mean if God got defeated by the devil and the devil mascaraded as God. Who the heck would follow God? Especially if God condoned acts of terror and such. I mean its totally weird.

Given most religious people don't really understand their own religion it's hardly surprising that almost all people who are not adherents of a particular religion don't understand it. It's even moreso with cults, as there are normally only about 3 people in any given cult who understand what the cult is about.

The difference between a cult and a religion is merely one of perspective. If you believe in God, then a cult is a quasi-religious movement that does not come from God, and [true] religion does come from God. If you don't believe in God then every religious organisation is a cult.
