Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Games you didn't expect yourself to be looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to the big Nintendo titles that are coming up. I still wish Star Fox had online but oh well. I never played it on the N64 so now I have a chance to play it. Pretty much everything they are putting out I'm looking forward to and see myself buying but on the 3rd party front I at first thought I had to wait after getting a few third party launch titles. I have Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Ridge Racer 3D, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries.  Recently I've found myself looking forward to titles I didn't expect. I had dismissed them at first but after taking the time to give them a fair look they seem pretty interesting.

First up is Driver: Renegade 3D. Video 1 It's hard for me to really know how good this might be. I haven't heard a lot of talk about it. Then again the same could be said for Driver: San Francisco as well. Doesn't seem like Ubisoft is pushing the series in general. The videos look okay. Graphics aren't OMG great but they look good for the most part given what is going on the screen. I want the game to end up being good. The scope of it looks impressive compared to what has been put out so far. Driver: San Francisco is looking pretty good as well. Might be picking up the PS3 version of that at the same time as Renegade.

James Noir's Hollywood Crimes Video 1  Video 2. I don't know much about this game other then it's a puzzle and mystery solving game. There are a few coming out the 3DS but after looking at Profs. Layton and the Doctor Lautrec game I think I want something less anime based. Not to say I don't enjoy anime as I do but just want something less of that style. Honestly though I've never played a Layton game and I kick myself for that but the 3DS version looks good and I am looking forward to that. Until then JN:HC seems like it could be design to appeal to a western gamer or one interested in puzzles from the start. Where that isn't the case with Layton I think.

Both are coming out in the next few months. Think I'll be taking a chance on them. Just hope I'm not disappointed. The lack of Wii games in North America outside of Zelda: Skyward Sword having any significance for me has turned out to be a good thing. Money can be spent on 3DS games and a select few PC games. Decided not to import Xenoblade and moved that money over to (Deus Ex: Human Revolution on the PC. :)

So does anyone else have any games that you weren't expecting to like but ended up liking and are now looking forward to them? On the Wii, 3DS, DS or maybe even another system?

Kid Icarus, I never was a fan of the NES game though I didn't play it much. I had all but forgotten the series until Pit returned in Brawl. When Kid Icarus was shown for the 3DS premier I was sceptical and I hate on rails games so I wrote it off. However with fewer games then I expected coming out this year I have increasingly become interested in seeing what Nintendo does with the franchise.

So I may buy Kid Icarus I'm hoping its playable at PAX so I can get some hands on time with it and decide for myself whether its worth the purchase.

StarFox 64, I love StarFox don't get me wrong but I bought it on N64 and again on Wii Virtual Console. So I was not that interested in buying it for a third time. However if the game has a save feature so I can just go and play the levels I want after completion than this will be a must buy for me. My biggest hiccup for the other versions is if I want to play the second last level I have to play my way through to that level. I'd much prefer just being able to select it and play!

As for third party games theirs none that I am interested in particular. I am very high maintinance when it comes to games, Nintendo first party titles set the bar pretty high and third parties rarely create games on their level. But hopefully a third party will suprise me soon and I'll pick up their game.

Example I loved Rayman 3D but wasn't to happy with my purchase of Ghost Recon, honestly I thought it played like a watered down less strategic Advance Wars!

Guild Wars 2: Never played MMOs before and certainly did not see myself getting excited and hyped for a MMO ever. That was until I saw an artwork for GW2. The promotional art for Guild Wars 2 immediately grabbed by attention. I really love that art style and started looking into the vids, screens and the info released at the time and it got me really excited. But all that wouldn't mean anything unless it was free to play, which Guild Wars 2 is, so that's why I started to get hypeed for it. Then throughout this year and last year they've been releasing tons of new info that continues to captivate and blow me away and really appreciate the direction and features the GW2 team was adding to a F2P MMO. So I cannot wait for GW2 to release!!!

The Last Guardian: I never played Shadow of the Colossus or ICO (Will play them when the Collection is out). If you take a look at my game collection, you'll see what types of games I love to play. Shooter, Action Adventure, RPG, and everything will explosions and big action haha. So at first something like The Last Guardian didn't pursuade me at all. Then came out the trailers... That changed everything... The beautiful graphics, totally unique style, and the promising feature of developing the relationship between the boy and Trico really got me excited.

BioShock Infinite: I really didn't like BioShock as much as many fans have. I liked it, but not to the largest extend. So when BioShock 2 was announced, didn't even bother looking at it and reviews only strengthened it. When BioShock Infinite was announced, same reason as BioShock 2. Just didn't feel anything for it. Like my previous explanations, then came the vids and gameplay... Holy shit that's just awesome!!! I can totally understand why BioShock Infinite won so many game of the shows at E3 and it totally deserves it after seeing that 15Min footage. Totally getting this Day 1. And through this I got to respect and pay attention to Ken Levine.

come on this thread is a goldmine waiting for dynamite to create a crater in the middle of it!

saints row the third. just looks awsume. gameplay and everything. i almost put in a list of not to get PS3 titles, but after watching some gameplay the third is shaping up to be a big hit and a must buy.

that is all

Far Cry 3 - The E3 presentation really set up a great adventure, and I'm hoping it will be awesome, even though I never cared for a Far Cry game before.

BioShock Infinite - I thought the first game was good, but nothing outstanding overall. With all the things they're doing with Infinite, I think they have a real winner on their hands!

Rise of Nightmares - I didn't think I would be excited for a slashy horror game, but the Kinect controls have me really excited to play this!

Skyrim.

Never played an Elder Scrolls before but I'm seriously craving lengthy single player games with a lot of content.
