Forums - Sales Discussion - Assasin's Creed Sales

Assassin's Creed was one of the reasons I bought my PlayStation 3 and I wasn't disappointed at all. When I went to buy the game, our local WalMart didn't have any left and there were only a couple left at EBGames.

There are 10 types of people.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Lair was hyped way more than AC and yetperformed much worse, both critically and commecially.

That's ridiculous. Lair had poor previews and was hyped by noone other than the SDF. AC had excellent previews, a massive advertising budget and was probably the most hyped original IP of the year.

@ Parokki

The producers job is to make sure a game releases on time and on budget. I don't think Ms. Raymond can be held responsible for the games design flaws, and I'm sure Ubisoft will be more than happy with the games performance and the free publicity they got due to the fact that she is total geekbait.

What is it about her that makes you doubt her competence? The fact she is good looking?

Jade's game has it's faults, but even the worst are the type that a lot of people don't care about, and mostly stuff that begins to bug you when you're well into the game. Jade's game selling a lot doesn't annoy me, although I really would appreciate if the inevitable sequel would focus more on hyping the awesomeness of itself, and not the pretty figure head of the development team.

I look forward to Jade's game 2, although it'd probably be better if they replaced her with someone chosen on competence alone.

Debating with fanboys, its not
all that dissimilar to banging ones
head against a wall

i knew it would do well but not this much i think it will end at around 5 mil total for both

How many of the people calling AC dissapointment of the year have actually played it?

It is by far the most amazing game 2008 on any platform with many gameplay mechanics we will see again. It may not be the BEST game because it has some rough edges but get real.

Yeh, before I played it I was a bit iffy about it, but then I borrowed it from a friend and fell in love, it is truly a great game

I still don't own this game. Probably I will buy it before end of January.

I bought it the day it came out, and it's my biggest disappointment of the year (but of course I didn't buy Lair).

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

The game sold well for a few reasons--it was hyped hugely & more importantly--it's unique. Beautiful graphics (which are a HUGE deal for many hardcore gamers), a huge world, unique concept (medieval assassin), and unique gameplay. The game was bound to sell well because it was "different" than any other game out there and entailed something everyone wants to do...(in video games)

Assassinate the enemy through stealth in a beautiful, open, large world. (With all this said, I bought the game at launch and find it sort of boring and repetitive IMO...sorry)

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

I said around 3.9 mil b/c it's at 3.833 million.

Anyways, I do hope that they fix all the bugs in it.
