Forums - Sales Discussion - Assasin's Creed Sales

Christmas season is coming to a close and many games have reaped great jumps and benefits. One game stuck out to me. Assasin's Creed has sold well above my expectations and I believe many frequent posters on this forum. Did anyone see this game selling so well? It's sitting around 3.9 million, with the 360 doing 2.3 and the PS3 version doing 1.5.

Do you think that the game will still sell well after the holidays. I see it doing 3.5 million on the 360 and near 2.25 million on the PS3 when it's all said and done.

 Thoughts?

shows what hype can do for a game that has been numerously dubbed "disappointment of the year"

2.3+1.5/=3.9

@Porkrinds: I've never seen one place call ssassin's Creed the disappointment of the year. The worst I've seen is 'average', which is more than I can say for Lair. AC is awesome!

I thought it would do well, but not this well... I don't think it was have AMAZING legs, but it should have OK legs. COD4 imho will have stronger legs(better game)

add me, the more the merrier.

If it wasn't so hyped, Assassin's Creed wouldn't have been anywhere near disappointment of the year. It still isn't, but it does again show what hype can do. If it's at roughly 3.8 million right now, I think it will settle at around 5.5-6.5 million when it's all said and done, 4 years from now.

Lair was hyped way more than AC and yetperformed much worse, both critically and commecially.

Assassin's Creed is an awesome start to a promising franchise. Just think of the possibilities. I'm truly ecstatic that it did this well. It deserves the sales, and I look forward to future installations.

And AC is still coming out on PC this year, so it could very well reach 5 million when it's all said and done.

Nah, AC had coverage like you wouldnt believe. Everyone knew about it. Only people who went out of their way knew of Lair.

Games i'm currently playing:

I think AC is going to be a very big franchise this gen. Some reviewers crapped on it for the parts it got wrong, and forgot that all most people care about are the new experiences it provides (in this case largely with the climbing aspect), which most agree Ubi got right.

If a game is fun and new, the public many times overlooks it's flaws... And middling reviews.
