i hear ya but the pricing stratagey doesn't match a 2012 150 price point unless they release a a new slim design that would allow for that. 2012 is just to early and to big. think about it. its just not logical. Sony would be taking a hit to big for them to take.

but by that time next year the generation will already be feeling too old and with Wii U release everybody would start looking at PS3 and 360 as inferior products

the PS3 SLIM is surely incoming,it can't be delayed more than next year as Wii U would release and a PS3 SLIM release after a new console launch wouldn't matter

Sony would not be taking a hit,they have been making profit good profit from early last year,i have been tracking their costcutting,further redesign,die cost cuts,further shrinking if RSX and CELL would benefit alot and volume increase would help.

Sony would have to drop to $199.99 by the end of this yr for a $150 price drop to happen next yr or 2013 for that matter. 

i am a bit confused though

sony can do all the following things

cut $50 this year and it would be correct as i think their 15m projection this year is in-line with $50 cut.a $100 cut would go beyond 15m units

thennext year PS3 and $50cut with big exclusives FFXIII VERSUS and AGENT(could be GTA EN........hehe)

that would fend of Wii U

or they do $100 this year and then ride out next year on exclusives and bundles and SLIM

i think Sony will make continuous small price drops till the launch of PS4 which would benefit them better. 

yeah but u have to take into consideration that with Wii U launch the conception fo PS3 would change very much in consumers mind

this could happen but it would have to be backed by PS3 SLIM in 2012 and big exlcusive like GTA to fend of Wii U

Sony would have to go without a price drop do something more drastic for one of those yr to get to $150 by 2013 or 2014.

if PS3 doesn't go against Wii U against next year and XBOX this year then in 2013 and 2014 the relevance of pS3 wouldn't even matter

software would have dropped,populrity,etc

i can also see sony releasing a slim2 to match the price drop your talking about and eventualy phasing out the other models. Sony can't afford to have PS3 close to the same price as the new model. the new slim modle woul likeyly have a 120g model and a 160g model likely priced $179-$199, or $199-$249 with the announcement in 2012 and 2014 being the lanch of the PS3. i just can't see it any other way.

and even $199 would need a SLIM OR A GTA exlcusive

if the cost of manufacturing goes down signifcantly then i don't see why Sony wouldn't make a new slim model price it $199  and when they announce PS4 drop PS3 price to $149.

price-cutting PS3 at the launch would only go against PS4 like the nintendo 3DS which is happening now

PS3 would go to $149 2 years before PS4 to earn PS3 some good sales in that time

i say PS4 at last will launch in 2014

well, we never know... at least with versus, it seems like nobody knows anything, not even Nomura...
