Yes, didn't think much of it. But his X-men run and followed Runaways run is what concerns me and made me realise how bad he really is. He took well established characters and messed them up, delayed the publication of it and screwed their characters. He made things up that didn't make sense and didn't explain what he was doing ever, his X-men run ended with the least surprisng 'itonic' moment in comics ever. It is only recently with the fantastic work of Mike Carey and Fraction/Gillen that some of those issues have been fixed.
On Runaways he took a regular monthly book and delayed it so 5 issues lasted a year, this is all so Marvel could have him on their staff. And the less said about his 'amazing' ending to Civil War, the better.

Well I am afraid I can't really listen to someone who didn't think much of Firefly, it is the 2nd best TV series I have ever seen
Also, a quick check on wiki describes these comics that you talk of as being critically aclaimed

Personal taste I guess. And yes, most 'critics' claimed it was good but no matter how much I read it, the stories and plot points weren't that great. I'd propbably say that the fact it still got acclaim and other fans commented about it socalled great stories made me not like it more, I seemed to be a rare few. Whedon and Cassaday ended up publishing 24 issues in 4 years a book that was meant to be a monthly book.
I'd happily say that out of all the comics and TPBs I have read in the last 10 years, issue #12 of Astonishing X-men was the biggest waste of money. There was no plot development or even a proper conclusion, just 22 pages (delay for like 2 months at that) of one liners.
Out of interest, what is your first best TV series you've ever seen?
