There are plenty of people that love N64 and Gamecube. I would like to know what makes people think Nintendo is going back in that direction though.

I wonder if Wii and DS in all of this, will get ANY 1st party SW from Jan 12 onwards ... surely they can't support 4 platforms.

In Europe Wii will still be receiving some 1st party games in 2012 like TLS and maybe Pandora's Tower. Also DQX is not a first party game but is definitely a significant release.
Beyond that I doubt it though... maybe a few Japanese games will be brought over by external publishers... maybe some WW/VC games from Nintendo.
Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Explain this to me. How is the wii worse then Gamecube. The sequels on wii are on the same level or better then its Gamecube and N64 counterparts. Expect some few parts. (and I should know I grew up with the gamecube)

I'm more referring to the direction. I felt most of the motion controlled games on Wii were poor. The controls in Twilight Princess and Donkey Kong felt really tacked on and distracted me a lot from the games. I ended up playing TP on Gamecube instead. The Wii lacks buttons, which it tries to make up for with motion gestures, but to me it doesn't feel right. I'd really like the Wii U to bring the focus back to button based gaming, but from what I've seen and heard it sounds like the primary controller is still the Wiimote, as the tablet controller is only one to a console?
I also want a Smash Brothers like Melee.

I'll give you donkey kong being tacked on. Though Twilight princess had no problem for me and I see no one else complain. Also I can't name a wii game that uses motion controls alot and use em well though expect sport games. Though I believe motion controls beat traditional controllers in almost anything expect fighting games
A fascinating possibility, but that makes you wonder where Game Boy Advance and GameCube fit in all of that. The two of them both seemed to have a reasonably steady stream respectively. GBA got good enough attention throughout its life and the only reason GameCube support (within Nintendo, anyway) died off was because of DS and Wii
Whatever your stance on any of this may be, it should be agreed that Nintendo needs more development teams.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
You can't name a Wii game that uses motion controls well but you think you're better than a traditional controller? To each his own, maybe Wii U will have the option for two controller setups in most games.

Let me rephrase I believe the controller has lots of potential. FPS is one. Its also the only way I can play em now. Ask anybody who played resident evil 4 wii edition. Not sports is no brainer. Swords fighting is a must. Pikmin showed is better on the wii mote. This is why motion plus is so important. Problem is that their is no games that use it.
I agree with you about shooters. I prefer RE4 on Wii, but this just isn't a genre Nintendo seems to care about. I don't expect next gen to be any different in that regard, so I'd prefer what I feel works best for Nintendo games. Hopefully they show a few for Wii U soon, I'd really like to see the direction of the software.
