Well Nintendo was worried that customers would be upset with them for cutting the 3DS price. They gave us the Ambassador program and such to try and calm all those angry early adopters. I myself am on the fence about whether it has calmed me down, but according to Japanese gaming website 4Gamer almost one third of 3DS owners regret their purchase. It would appear that the ambassador program isn't doing enough to stop the anger.
4Gamer polled 6,500 3DS owners to find out just whether or not gamers still had "Anger or Regret" buying their 3DS units after the recently announced ambassador program. It turns out Nintendo is right in being worried because nearly one third are royally pissed. The 4Gamer research didn't only ask how many gamers regretted or were upset about purchasing 3DS it went on to poll other questions. Such as
"49.4 percent of 3DS owners surveyed said that the current available games for the console were not adequate, and they felt "disappointed" with the system, even with the knowledge of future titles." - Gamasutra
"45.7 percent said that they were either not planning, or on the fence about buying upcoming titles Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7." - Gamasutra
Then 4Gamer polled all those who don't own 3DS currently and asked how many planned to buy one now that the price cut occured and only around 5% said they had intent to purchase.
Now if I were Nintendo I would be shaking in my boots, these results show that customers in Japan are royally pissed with how Nintendo has handled the 3DS launch. What do you think, are these numbers reliable? What about here in North America do you think we would have similiar results?
Should Nintendo be concerned by these surveys?
