Forums - Gaming Discussion - Team Meat: “Kinect Is a f***ing joke”

Wow, I just read this article a minute ago. What is up with these guys? It sounds like their manpon fell out. Read this for yourselves:

Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat has said that the Xbox Kinect is “garbage” and a “joke.”

Speaking to Eurogamer about what he’d like to see in the next generation of consoles, Edmund McMillen got straight to the point, “Just give me my f***ing game pad back.”

McMillen gave his thoughts on the Wii: “The Wii came and went and it had the motion-sensing thing. The only game that was really good was the game that was made by Nintendo for the system, that came with the system – Wii Sports.

“Any game after that, and please anybody chime in and tell me the games that I’m missing here, because I’ve played a lot of Wii games and there’s not one Wii game other than Wii Sports that actually uses these controls and makes the game fun because of it.

“When it comes down to it, if Nintendo is the only one that is able to come up with awesome ideas for the peripheral, then I really doubt anyone else is going to.”

McMillen then launched an attack on the Kinect: “The same goes for Kinect. That thing is a piece of garbage. There is absolutely nothing good for it. It’s a joke. It’s a f***ing joke. It doesn’t make any f***ing sense. It’s painful because they justify it by saying ‘a lot of people bought it’, but that’s just marketing. I’m telling you, there’s not going to be anything for it that’s so compelling that 10 years from now you’ll tell your friends ‘wow, I really want to break out the Kinect and play this’. It’s just not going to happen.”

What do you guys think about this?

I think he is right, outside of sales what was it good for. Motion controls was a huge let down for core gamers this gen and also a huge distraction for long time publishers and developers.

I see where you are coming from but I think kinect has served it's purpose sales wise. The problem I have with the device is the fact that microsoft have no idea what to do with it because it cannot work effectively for hardcore titles.

Kinect was a joke, what it was originally ment to do with the expression recognision and what it actually did is a joke. Its good for controlling menus but a controller is better for navigating them anyway.

I tend to believe what he says, I can't see any proof to the contrary yet at least.

Nor will you by the looks of things. The e3 showing of the kinect star wars game was a joke tbh.

Classic response. Get out of here.

the problem is casual gamers doesn't bother about that...

correct, Wii Sports is the only good motion control game around. Nothing has managed to surpass that yet, which is a testament that motion controls are a dead end when the best game was the Wii's first game which was basically a tech demo to show off the technology released 5 years ago.

Has any one watched the AVGN episodes on all the motion control stuff for the NES, they have been trying this stuff back in the late 80s and early 90s and was that the future? no and the gamepad got improved to now near prefect levels with the PS1 analog paving the way of controller design of the future.

The future is collecting information from the player, Heart rate, facial expressions, the ability to tell what mood the player is in at the moment when playing so the game can adjust to make the experience better is the future of controls and immersion.

Getting up to wave your arm like a idiot isn't controls that takes gaming to the next level (yet). Until they build full VR rooms to allow full body movement control, having only part movement control is a dead end not worth investing in.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
