Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata: "could be a Nintendo 3DS software title which does not use the 3D feature"

Well it's looking like 3D isn't that necessary for the system after all. This could be a sign of something with the hardware, but just as easily might not.

It's definitely got nothing to do with the hardware. Wasn't there already a 3DS game released with no 3D?

So this confirms by Nintendo what I already though, the 3D is a pointless feature.

Erm, no. It just means that 3D is optional, and they aren't forcing it on developers. It's the same way with the DS touchscreen.

Then that wouldn't completely nullify the 3DS's point. Its like all the people encouraging Kinect to get a controller

but at the same time im not surprise

Alot of developers gave up on motion control halfway through and a increase in allowing normal control format happened, I definitely see 3D not going past just shit popping out at you.

Yup, exactly like how motion controls on the Wii were a "pointless feature."

"I think there could be a Nintendo 3DS software title which does not use the 3D feature at all, and I believe Nintendo will develop such software" Not forcing it on third parties is one thing, making a game yourself that doesn't use a display feature you put in the system yourself is another, the 3D obviously doesn't add anything to the game, this is just Nintendo sharing that view

Except if you take away the motion controls from Just Dance and Dance Central, you lose the dancing part. You take away the 3D from any 3DS game, and the game doesn't actually change (save for depth perception, which doesn't benefit everyone, and as I've noted elsewhere, hasn't hurt lots of polygon games from becomming hits).

3D and HD cannot make something better. They just change how it looks. They are superficial features that are too often used in leiu of actually making movies and games better.

Nintendo have said before that the 3D feature is not a must in games in fact if they skip 3d all together games can look even better.
