O/T: 1/1/1986 usually, with the year being correct but the month and days being left as their defaults.

The point of those verifications is consent, so that nobody can view material that can be perceived as offensive or obscene without agreeing beforehand that he/she wants to see the material in question. Website owners are protecting themselves from complaints or worse (like lawsuits) with this.


Why don't they ask you if you are 18 or older and leave it at that?

I'm 19 so it doesn't matter, but I'm not gonna scroll all the way to October, then 25th, then 1991 just to watch a video that has like 1 swear word in it and is therefore only for mature audiences.
