Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people say the PS2 started out slow?

It's not just the slow PS2 fallacy we need to expose, the same people that make that silly claim also state that the Wii's sales are perfectly in line with the N64 and gamecube sales.

So how about we just label them the "sony launch fallacy" and the "Nintendo launch fallacy". Now whenever someone says that, we can just use these labels and move on.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

All fair enough - I must have either missed the PS2 "slow sales" comment (absolute BS), or just ignored it as a joke/rubbish.

The numbers speak for themselves. Every generation is different, anyone "assuming" the trends from 6-7 years ago will be repeated for no reason... is kidding themselves.

March US figures will be out soon enough, and this will assist further in the case of "fact" vrs "fiction" :)

I agree price has the potential to be the biggest factor, but there's no reason PS3 can't get down to $99 eventually.

The PS2 isn't even down there yet, why would you assume that the PS3 which is starting off twice as high could get anywhere near that amount?

Maybe he's trying to sell you his PS3?

PS2 hasn't come down to $99 because it hasn't needed to. It's moving just fine at $129.

Why would I spend $600 on a system?

i saw a funny picture where there was an xbox360 ontop of a couple dozen cases of beer, where the beer represents the difference in price between 360 and PS3....
like the wendy's commercials, guys. would you really buy a PS3 if you knew it was gonna cost 600 junior bacon cheeseburgers?
