Level-5 International America is open for business. The company is the new American division of Japan's Level-5 studio, a developer and publisher that is probably the gaming industry's biggest Japanese success story through the past half decade.
The talented team at Level-5 has been responsible for development on RPGs like the last two main series Dragon Quest sequels – Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2 and Dragon Quest IX on Nintendo's DS – but really burst onto the scene with the launch of the Professor Layton franchise in 2007. Since then the studio has grown Layton into a wildly successful series with half a dozen different installments, crafted the half-sports/half-RPG soccer series Inazuma Eleven and worked alongside famed filmmakers Studio Ghibli to develop the intricately detailed Ni no Kuni.
Most of those titles remain unreleased in America. But perhaps not for long.
Level-5 International America has only just set up shop, but already the company is soliciting fan feedback via Facebook and Twitter about 10 of their unlocalized games. The opinion poll's question is phrased as "which of these games is most exciting to you?" – so it's not specifically saying that this information is being gathered to inform localization decisions. But you've got to think it's a strong first step in that direction. The new American employees do need some work to do, right?
The 10 titles listed in the studio's Facebook poll are the following:
- Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney (3DS)
- Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (3DS)
- Fantasy Life (3DS)
- Girl's RPG Cinderelife (3DS)
- Time Travelers (3DS)
- The Little Battlers (PSP)
- Ni no Kuni (PS3 Version)
- Ni no Kuni (DS Version)
- Inazuma Eleven (DS)
- Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Wii)
