Forums - Sales Discussion - Now Nintendo has the Top 10 Best-Seller Games in History

I just wanna say this. Nintendo is the best, Microsoft is next, Sony fucked up the PS3.

The 360 won't bomb, the Ps3 won't sell out past 100 million, the Wii will. Over all predictions, NINTENDO IS BACK IN FIRST BITCHES!

Its not fair you add all the sales for every nintendogs version, if thats so why dont you add all the Gran turismo's? Oh thats right it would be at 100M.

Hey, wanna play that game? Why not add every version of Zelda, Pokemon (All of them together), Metroid, Smash Brothers, and every other game?

All three versions of Nintendogs are the same with the difference of 1-2 breeds and were all released at the same time, like Pokemon (Diamond/Pearl, R/G/B, S/G etc) where in Gran Turismo each game is 100% different than it's previous version.

And it doesn't stop there! Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy all going to be one game!

Gran Turismo's combined sales aren't anywhere close to 100M, btw. More like... Half that. I don't even think it would beat Super Mario Bros (NES + GB + GBA).

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

@ Killy-Blame

Thankyou for a well reasoned post, one in which i have agreed with and known of for some time but could never express my words correctly. Anyone who thinks the video game industry was/is turning a profit without Nintendo is seriously disillusioned. Many third parties are performing in the red or are hanging on to ever dwindling profits year-by-year. Not to mention that the 360/PS3 are systems that will take some time before they become more profitable in comparison to the amount they cost to produce.

no those are seperate games.  Not to mention GT series is around 50 million, not 100 million.  Only 2 franchises in history have more than 100 million in the series: Pokemon and Mario.

Secondly the different version of Nintendogs and Pokemon are the same version with slight altercations.  Kinda like the differences between PS2 and PS2 Slim.  However I don't see you bitching about wanting to seperate the PS2 hardware sales.  Yea keep your mouth shut.

It can be a little annoying to see leoj say something stupid in every thread here.

Yes its annoying when this site has 5 games added to one making it look like nintendo has the best software sales, were in fact its a lie.

1)The Sims is in 11th, but has many expasions, I haven't seen you complaining about that.

2)And......... do some reaserch, look also for the biggest selling franchises of games ever.

3)Do you think that people buy the always 2 versions of the game??

4)Pokemon Pearl/Diamond are the same journey, the difference is only in the monsters you can get.

1)  The expansions are not included in the total sales.

2) Look to what I write at 1) then you know you did better some reseacher yourself ;).

3+4) Their were some people who bought Blue and Red.  Ten years ago I got the blue version and later for my
Birthday the red version.  About Nintendogs you are probably right.

Can someone make a list of top 10 games that are not included with the systems, plus one of the top third party games, now that would be interesting.

6 of the 10 were pack-ins with Nintendo systems (SMB, SMW, SML, Tetris, Duck Hunt, Wii Sports), and 3 more had multiple SKUs (Pokemon RGB, Pokemon GS, Nintendogs).

That deserves mention, but many who criticize their inclusion just want to completely ignore them, as if they aren't among the most popular games of all time, to make Nintendo look less dominant.

How about this: by a quick count, 19 of the top 25, 31 of the top 50, and 52 of the top 100 best-sellers of all time were published by Nintendo. No one can pretend that the 6 pack-ins do not belong among the top 50 most popular games. While they've captured the whole top 10 through pack-ins, to pretend they aren't the dominant software producer of all-time is silly.

I don't care if the games are included i just think it would be cool to see the other lists aswell if anyone knows how to make a list with them.  I could care less if wii sports goes on to sell 3billion units.

I had a bigger list, but i couldn't find the link.

Why would I need more reaserch? I have this.

1. Mario: 193 m
2. Pokémon: 155 m
3. Final Fantasy: 68 m
4. Madden NFL: 56 mi
5. The Sims: 54 m
6. Grand Theft Auto: 50 m
7. Donkey Kong: 48 m
8. The Legend of Zelda: 47 m
9. Sonic the Hedgehog: 44 m
10. Gran Turismo: 44 m
11. Lineage: 43 m
12. Dragon Quest: 41 mi
13. Crash Bandicoot: 34 mi
14. Resident Evil: 31 m
15. James Bond: 30 m
16. Tomb Raider: 30 m
17. Mega Man: 26 m
18. Command & Conquer: 25 m
19. Street Fighter: 25 m
20. Mortal Kombat: 20 m

So, expassion for The Sims weren't counted? ....... ok than.

As you said, SOME PEOPLE did buy both versions. But PEOPLE who bought pokemon and Nintendogs have bought the different versions? Do you see the semantic difference?
