What does "living in Japan" have to do with anything?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

then why are you here?

Tbh I was pretty bored reading that until trophies came up... already knew they were in the Vita but it's not to have another confirmation :D.

Some of the stuff sounds neat but I doubt I'll ever use it... albeit it'd be kind of cool if like, everyone I walked past got sent my Super Stardust Delta score (Who owned it) and then were like challenged to beat it, cause they wouldn't ever beat it :D.

So either I read that wrong or Near is:

_ Your vita tracks you all day
_ you can "drop" gifts (hope you don't expend them as you do)
_ you log on the servers at the end of the day and it crossections your travels with other people and tells you if you picked up gifts.

This sounds as the battery saver version of spot-pass (they don't talk about inter-vita wireless connections), which does make sense considering that the vita is aiming for power and will have a short battery life (fair assumption)... but it also takes away the automation of it.
1) you have to drop gifts or have people drop some
2) (as far as I understood) you won't download special content, by say... standing next to the sony booth at E3.

I fear that this will be very under used as a feature... because it requires action from the user.

the cross-chat though sounds like a great idea (well implementation as it's inspired by xbl), especially for a portable.

It seems really neat. They are adding stuff that isnt on the ps3, they are trying new things with the Near activity. Personally i am most interested in the cloud gaming functionality and i hope they go into details on this. Also very much like the idea of the touchscreens and how they may potentially be implemented in games.

I thought there might be free stuff, and I supose party chat is nice.

Also it's not like there are a lot of topics to choose from around here.

Vita battery life in an interview was stated to be comparible to PSP's. PSP's is rated at 4-6 hours while gaming. Better than the 3DS' at 3-5 which is being found to be on the lower end of that rating most of the time: http://www.geekosystem.com/3ds-battery-life-bad/

It doesn't change the point though, it's a machine that will consule ennergy and having it on with wifi might be a big burden. The 3DS consumes differently while playing DS games, which implies a big discrepancy of power consumption depending on the output. Vita might not have been built with a low consumption mode in mind and thus having wifi and other features "on" while in sleep mode may be a bigger hindrance than for the 3DS on the battery life. In any case, the Battery life fo the 3DS doesn't change the battery life of the Vita or PSP, all 3 systems are low for portables (even my xperia play has a longer battery life since the last update =D )
