Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which is better - xbox achievements or ps3 trophies?

Which do you prefer?

Trophies 127 49.80%

Achievements 80 31.37%

Both 15 5.88%

Neither 23 9.02%

Im an idiot 10 3.92%

Total:255

neither

but if i had to choose it would be trophies b/c there ranking system is a bit more complex than just a number for achievements

the pop up sound for trophies i like it better achievement's sounds like pac man took a dump not a very rewarding feeling

syncing doesnt bother me much i dont know how long it takes for ya'll but i dont remember waiting more than a few secs for mine only when i had to sync to another console did it take a few minutes and its really sonys fault there whole online in general is a little bit more cumbersome, but i dont pay money for sonys online services so i can really complain

to make me like this feature more for future gens i would want to see exclusive type achievments for a console eliminating the ones that are more time consuming and based on luck i bet that would really draw alot of these achievement/trophy whores to one particular console

also would be nice if this gens achievements/trophies get carried over to next gen consoles profiles otherwise i'll quit being a whore bout them

Achievements.

Trophies are neat but Achievements are so much simpler and just get the point across better. I look at a friend on my PS3 and see they're a level 6...well what does that mean compared to me? How long until I reach level 6? I look at a friend on XBL and I see they have 20,000 points and I know what that means compared to me.

I like more trophies because it's more visible what the user won (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum).

Just see whot has more platinum / gold trophies. That's what I do anyway.

I prefer trophies because I only own a PS3 and I have no idea how good achievements are, therefore they are automatically worse

Neither. I'd rather see those points and trophies turned into some kind of currency. Something like each publisher having their own "achievement cash" where you can buy extras at a later day. Things like map packs and extra characters for fighting games after 2500 coins (1000 per game) or a free download of an old VC game. Obviously I haven't thought this all the way through and I imagine there are a lot of holes in the idea, but something along those lines would be interesting to see.

Hell you could even market your currency. Sony Samoleons, Crapcom Cash, Square Enix Silver, Data Design Interactive Dabloons, what ever. It would probably get people more interested in what you're doing as a publisher if they could just find a game worth playing for those 250 more digi-dabloons.

If there's anything I learned from the generation after the Atari 2600, it's that points and trophies are worthless. They really need to turn those points and trophies into something worth exchanging.

As a ps3 only console holder, I have only ever been able to collect trophies from my games. It got me wondering which of the two - ps3 trophies or xbox achievements is better. Achievements came out earlier and have a points system (to 1000/game, i think?)  whereas trophies come in gold, silver, bronze and the rare platinum. Just curious as to which of the two systems the gamers here prefer, and WHY?

Trophies also are point based but it's hidden under the colors fasade.

Personally i think trophies are better as you can clearly and easily see how many games such person maxed.

You raise an important point. The rank is based on a points system with different points being allocated for the 4 different trophy types.

Personally i dont care about the ranking system and how that compares to others. For me, its about getting the trophies themselves and completing to 100% aka getting the platinum. This is why i kinda like the trophy system and not the achievements - getting a platinum is equivalent to getting 100% complete in a game (i.e. a measure of how well you did in a game) whereas the achievements only gives total points without any indication of how they were achieved in individual games.

Guess, in the end it comes down to personal taste and maybe which console you started out on.

Voted trophies simply for the fact they have a platinum. To me the idea of the platinum trophey just means more then the idea of getting 1000 gamerpoints.. as like... whats the difference between 990 and 1000 really? It puts less 'emphasis' on doing that one really really hard task.

Some downloadable games get full trophey lists too, which rocks :D.

But i own only a PS3, and am a trophey whore to the max (23 platinums now i think 0_o) so I guess I would say that :D.

23!  I have zero platinums...I'm closest on God of War 3, just need 2 easy trophies and beat Titan Mode.  I get killed by the first boss about five times then I give up and come back the next week, rinse/repeat.

If that's true then you can forget about it :P
