Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which is better - xbox achievements or ps3 trophies?

Which do you prefer?

Trophies 127 49.80%

Achievements 80 31.37%

Both 15 5.88%

Neither 23 9.02%

Im an idiot 10 3.92%

Total:255

@Ajescent: It's summer, things are going slow. We have to create artificial conflict.

OT: I have a slight preference for trophies but I view both systems as a list of personal challenges I can choose to take on. I don't put that much importance in my overall score or level, I just like being able to see the list of things I have accomplished for a game.

If I absolutely had to choose one I'd go with trophies since a point system is kind of lame, but ultimately they are the same thing, I voted neither

aint both of these about the same?

TBH i only own a ps3 and I don't really care about trophies.....Im sure if I had an xbox360 i wouldn't care much about achievements either.

why should i care? i don't even think about them till i get them.

besides they don't buy me new games or free downloadable games either so whts the point again? i forget!

I have both consoles and theres nothing better than getting an achievement to pop up!!!!

Voted trophies simply for the fact they have a platinum. To me the idea of the platinum trophey just means more then the idea of getting 1000 gamerpoints.. as like... whats the difference between 990 and 1000 really? It puts less 'emphasis' on doing that one really really hard task.

Some downloadable games get full trophey lists too, which rocks :D.

But i own only a PS3, and am a trophey whore to the max (23 platinums now i think 0_o) so I guess I would say that :D.

23!  I have zero platinums...I'm closest on God of War 3, just need 2 easy trophies and beat Titan Mode.  I get killed by the first boss about five times then I give up and come back the next week, rinse/repeat.

well in terms of 990 and 1000 once you reach 1000 you have 100% and that game gets put on a screen with the rest of your 1000/1000 games.

I prefer achievements but tro[hies are cool but they take way to long to synch were as achievements just go.

I voted neither.
I have 6k gamer score, lvl 14 on psn.

Gamer score doesn't mean much to me, synching trophies takes too long now at lvl 14.
Both offer nice ways to compare how far your friends got in certain games, or to see what other games people with roughly the same taste as you like. Only rarely do I try to get a certain achievement or trophy, it has to be a fun challenge, not 100 head shots with weapon x.

I actually prefer the steam version where it shows you how much time your friends have put into certain games.

Next gen it would be nice if you could see more stats about the game. Percentage of people who got a certain achievement or trophy. How long it took people to complete the story, and total playing time single / co-op / vs per game.

Well personally I prefer trophies, the reason being that they're not only trophies that you collect, but there's also a levelling system that comes with them, right now I'm at level 12 with 94%, which is pretty cool, not to mention that I think it looks nicer having trophies than just a number beside my name, and seems a little more organised.

However, that's just me, and people can feel free to agree or disagree, I just don't want to start an argument or something, lol.

Agreed ^

I prefer the trropies...bc its seems like ur accomplishing something...and with the achievements...its like just earning points and that's about it...
