Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3: 'Still a Pain in the Ass' for Developers

Sony really should have dedicated more memory to the PS3. The system only uses 256 MB compared to the 360's 512 MB.

I'm not going to quip about what runs better or looks better on which system because I own both the PS3 & 360... and to be honest, I can't tell a difference.

No Darksiders was actually a pretty good game, it was kinda like a zelda game type

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

as the old saying goes, if it's a pain in the ass, you're doing it wrong.

and from Mythbusters; when in doubt, use more lube.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

Nsanity go post something negative on the 360 for once so you do not look like a punk with a wasted agenda.

The PS3 has 512 MB RAM too though it is split between VRAM and system RAM.

  • 256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz
  • 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz

The 512MB unified RAM setup of X360 gives developers more ways to work with the RAM though, and 3rd parties do like that.

Even last gen, the Gamecube had more total RAM than the PS2 (43 MB total non-unified RAM vs. 32 MB RAM for the PS2) but the GC only had 24 MB main system RAM and that caused some problems when porting games.

i wanted to say "look at GoW3"...ahould i still say it now?

If you're developing multi-platform titles the PS3 will always be trickier than the 360 and PC to develop for, which is his point. The PS3 has advantages for exclusive development, as God of War, Uncharted, etc. make clear, but it will never be easier for multi-platform titles.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I think it depends on the developer experience you have on hand. From this perspective, the vast majority of the programmers with experience will have good DirectX and or OpenGL knowledge on PC, which makes them more familliar with the Xbox architecture than the PS3's.  - So mabie Vigil lost 2 or 3 PS3 gurus and now it's hurting and the management (who should have kept them on in the first place) is frustrated at the PS3.

Also, easier doesn't mean better. Look at Heavenly Sword - HAHA!!

@OP: Title should have read "... for Some Developers" (which, truth be told, is true for any system and some developers)
