Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Lots of 3DS games cancelled. A worrisome trend?

Maybe it's bad timing or just bad luck. But there's a growing list of cancelled 3DS games. That's not good.

On the list of canned 3DS games, there's My Garden, which was supposed to be a 3DS launch title. There's also Saints Row: Drive-By, also apparently canned.

Four Hudson games for the 3DS were canned, including Omega Five, Kororinpa: Marble Mania, Bonk, and Bomberman. However, these cancellations could be due to the current situation at Hudson.

BloodRayne: The Shroud wasn't canned outright, but it's development is currently on hold. Also, DJ Hero 3 hasn't been officially cancelled, but it seems like this game is going to fall by the wayside. Blame the flagging popularity of music games for that!

Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy was officially canned, and as of yesterday, Mega Man Legends 3 bit the dust.

To add insult to injury, it was revealed this week that 3DS game Crush 3D was delayed due to uncertainly over whether or not the 3DS is going to succeed.

The Nintendo 3DS was released in late February in Japan and in late March in the West. It's only been out a few months, and it's already being battered by bad luck and strong headwinds. There are big 3DS games on the horizon, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is currently out.

The issue that plagues Nintendo hardware isn't traditionally a lack of good Nintendo games, but a lack of good games from outside developers—not to say these canned games were amazing. However, if developer after developer jumps ship, what kind of message does it send studios thinking about making a 3DS title?

I can't say I'm not afraid for the future, third parties, if I remember well, never acted like this in the past and it's obvious games like Crush 3D are going to bomb, without marketing or without a big name, how could they sell millions in the first year? Still, if you don't launch games you'll fail in creating an ideal userbase and at the end ther'll be the same people who bought the console for Nintendo games and won't buy it for many others...how could 3DS succeed in Sega's mind, if there are no must have games (well, except for Ocarina, maybe DoA or SSFIV, but these are three games for a 250$ console...) and if so many games are being canned?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I heard about that, it kinda reminds me of the PS3 back in 2007...but I didn´t think I´d see this kind of thing for a Nintendo handheld system.Personally, I think the direction Nintendo is taking the system is wrong.

At least when it comes to  Nintendo systems, especially a handheld one, be certain of one thing...if most of the 3DS library of games ends up consisting of GameCube-esque games, this system will probably never really take off.

It shows they arent confident in what they created and their ability to get thier game known. Knaw i kid i dont really understand this as we all know the 3ds will eventually sell like crazy.

i find it ironic i hear all these people saying the 3ds is getting tons of games then every few days you hear a game is cancelled

the 3ds will be fine, i am sure these games arent a loss for the 3ds at all. once the holiday comes and goes, everyone will be talking how well the system is doing.

I guessed that 3rd parties would jump on a Nintendo system without much in the way of AAA 1st party games to compete with at the moment. I was wrong

Partially coincidental. The Hudson games would have been canned whatever, given that the whole company went down. Megaman Legends 3 was also a longshot, and as for Saints Row and Assassin's Creed, it sounded like those were games that never properly existed in the first place, so i would call it bad luck, the latter two of which were brought on by Nintendo's efforts to promote games that don't really exist yet (but Nintendo's not alone in that. "Agent," anyone?)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Hudson a company that is going under console all their games. That leaves 3 games that have been canceled. Mega Man Legends 3 creator/director left the company why would the continue with the game. So this is more press trying to make something out of nothing.
The same way the news media is saying Tiger Woods is going broke. You telling me a man who has made billions for a span of 15 years. Now after 1 bad year of golf, and a divorce is now broke. Only if he had 20 Million dollar hookers everyday for 2 years.

If megaman legends 3 might have been coming out still I would probably get the 3ds, but no FUCK
