Forums - Sony Discussion - Sigh...PS3 Disc Drive failed.

Before buying a slim, i had two PS3's, a BC and a 40gb model. Some of you may remember i got the yellow light on my BC model back in January this year; dissapointed but deep down expected. Anyway i replaced it with a slim.

Now today, the 40gb i had in my living room (brother used this one to play) has broken too. Not the YLOD but the disc drive has failed. I find it weird since it was a console that was rarely played on. I got it in 2008, but has only been played heavily for the past year or so (brother).

Yeah, bummer. I will not be replacing this one though. I've spent more than 1K on new ps3 consoles as it is. Its freaking ridiculous and dissapointing.

On another note, i will not be buying the PS4 until the slim version is out for sure now. Thanks for hearing me out VG.

I can't blame you for not replacing you're brothers ps3, but I say you should buy the ps4 still first day.

The lense is very easy to replace and very cheap. I replaced mine, cost me 50 bucks and an evening. To say the truth, launch Sony consoles are probably the best ones to buy, my old manager at EB said it best "Buy launch, made in Japan."

ah tough luck i feel for you, my orig launch ps3 broke 11 months in, replacement since then has been 100% fine. i do have a slim downstairs and mainly use that now

whats the repair costs?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Well it's my ps3, he just uses it as he does not have his own.

Well see what it offers, but as of now, I don't plan to.

Yeah me too. When my BC model got YLOD, i fixed it with a hairdryer (surprisingly worked lol) but i boxed it and got me a slim.

150, though i looked into what batman said and hes right; replacement lense is about $50 but just like my BC PS3, I am not going to do the fix on my own(open it). It's just going to stay as a useless console now.

I suppose in theory it would be smart to wait, but like a fanboy I'm going in there first day lol.

Maybe I need to get the 2year extended warranty offered by Sony before my 40gb meets it's doom.

Tough break fam. They damn sure don't make things like they use to

End of 2016 prediction
