The whole notion that Nintendo could never possibly lose a handheld battle is laughable. Yes, they've dominated the handheld market ever since they entered it, but, the PSP was the only handheld to give them any sort of challenge. People on here seem to bash and downgrade the PSP at every chance they get, 68+ million units sold speak for themselves. Sure, it isn't anywhere near the DS numbers, sure, it lost the battle against the DS, but, it's still here, and it's still selling. Give credit, where credit is due, Sony didn't go down with a whimper like many of the other challengers to Nintendo. The PSP wasn't a failure, no matter how hard some people try to make it out to be.

OT: This battle will be much closer, Sony has really impressed with the Vita, and lets not forget about the $250 price tag it carries. Software will be the major selling point for both systems, Nintendo will always have Mario and Zelda to fall back on, but, the Vita has a pretty damn good line-up so far. If Sony bring the kind of quality first party games to the Vita like they have done with the Ps3, it'll do just fine.

It did'nt beat the DS,that in itself makes it a failure, not matter how much it sold. lol

No it dosen't! Failure is based on more than whether you came first or not.

  • The PSP didn't fail if it 1. Made more money than it cost Sony

                                         2. Achieved whatever other goals Sony hoped to achieve with it

I'm pretty sure it did both.

  • If the 3DS has a library as good as the DS did, it will probably win this gen but the gap will be closer. If it has a better library than the DS did, which is what I predict(I mean obviously there's better 3rd party hardcore game support than the Ds had and we already know Smash Bros is coming, along with revivals like Kid Icarus and Luigi's Mansion), then it the gap will be very similar to last gen
  • The 3DS price just went down by $80. Should be tough for the PSV to win this gen at this rate!

I have to say the Vita...bc the 3DS strikes me as another gimmick...its all nice and looks great...but the Vita has so much more to offer...the technology, graphics, gameplay etc far surpasses the 3DS...

LOL! Just LOL! Read your post over and over again and discover by yourself how many ways this post can be described by many not-nice adjectives. Just so no one thinks I'm some nintendo-biased nintendo fan(I'm more of a general video game lover. love quality no matter where it comes from), I got my PSP before I got my DS(PSP is spoilt now though) and I'll be getting my 3DS real soon(price drop motivation), then I'll replace my PSP(there's a ton load of games I MUST beat on that thing before I even consider getting a PSV) and will eventually get a PSV.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again:

There are no game changers this generation.

It's PSP vs. DS all over again. Both companies are pursing the same strategy as before, and the result will be the same. Nintendo will have far greater sales.

If anything Nintendo has even more of an edge because it seems 3rd party support will be stronger this time around.

Sony threw in the towel before it even began.  I think they are content with second place in the handheld market.

That's still pretty good. No one's been able to take up to 10% of the handheld market share from Nintendo before but Sony's taking almost 40%. And as someone pointed out, if a large number of those who bought the DS as casual gamers(that's not us now, that's girls, gramps and gran) are buying tablet pcs and android phones now, then Sony has a better chance than it did before. In any case, the $80 price drop on the 3DS will change things a bit.

PSVita all the way, the screen is just gorgeous...I've played around with the 3DS and while the 3D effect works (Even better on the XL) the low DPI just cripples the machine. In my opinion sacrificing the DPI for a screen which is 3D capable was not worth it.

I'll also never understand why Nintendo went with just one analogue stick, after all the shit the PSP got for only having one, Nintendo goes ahead and does the same and it seems no one complains.

It would have caused no issue in terms of gameplay, in fact it would have broadened it, like making first person shooters possible, and no the stylus is not a good solution, not because it's not sensitive because it is, but because as soon as you use the stylus you lose half the buttons on the console. Keep in mind that using a stylus keeps you right hand away from the face and shoulder buttons, and while buttons can be mapped on the touch screen, games like COD will not feel as solid and smooth on it. Shooters like house of the dead or Kid icurus work fine with the stylus.

Now I hear allot of people pooh poohing on console like games on handhelds, or even saying that FPS should never be on handhelds, but I say why not? why can't we have both types of games?

I loved playing uncharted on my vita while on the train when going to work, I'm currently playing COD on the go, I seriously don't see why both can't exist on the handhelds.

The one approach by Sony which I love is the buy one game and have it on both PS3 and PSVita, along with cloud save, I can be playing BigSky infinite on my PS3, cloud sync and now I'm playing on my Vita while on the train .

I just hope after a PSvita price cut it starts selling better, a console this great deserves to be i the hands of more gamers.
