Sony started off badly with the whole $599 thing.

Sony far from failed the PS3. The problem at the beginning of this gen was their arrogance. They thought that they could price the console at $599 and expect people to buy it. Had Sony launched it at an affordable price, more people would have bought it early on, and they would have made more money.
