Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii in China

I'm not xenophobic but I think China is a threat to the developped countries as they steal our technologies (outsourcing, spies) and pirate are products. The EU lost $200 billion trading with China in 2006, I think the EU and even the US are stupid not to defend their economies against a country that steal and pirate everything. We're loosing millions of jobs to the profit of China that use kids to manufacture products at 1/10th our cost. Nintendo should avoid making business with China, we, developped country, have to wait a few decades that China develops at our standards before making business with it.

All that said I have chinese friends.

NINTENDO IS EVIL! CHILD LABOR!

Ok off that now.

Companies do buisness with china because it is cheaper than doing within the country. People buy the cheap stuff.

That is a problem with the buisnesses, AND the people. Not the goverment. (well the goverment looses, so the people loose, but there really isnt much the goverment can do)

EDIT: to think, some grubby little child assembled my Wii...

I think that Ninty and sony both use the same assembling company, so a "grubby little child" assembled your ps3 too

Um, Nintendo uses the same OEMs as Sony does. But don't let the facts get in the way of your bashing. If anything, Sony probably does 50x the business with China that Nintendo does.

There are still people that think this way? Ok. Lets see. The chinese propably want better living, and the western companies rush China with their production. Capitalist wants money, so they manufacture products where it's cheap and sell them where they get most profit out of the products. So, the threat isn't China, it's the capitalist. Propably governments would like to do something about importing from China (in EU there are big toll fees for some products), but the capitalist says, that protectionism doesn't take you anywhere, or else... The governments don't have much choice but allow importing. And China doesn't need to steal any tech from others, since everyone is pushing their tech to China. And China wont develop to the western standards, unless you make trade with it. Besides, without China financing US economy by loans, there would be thing a bit diffent, than what it is at the moment. Since it's the people who shoot themselves to leg by buying cheap chinese products, it's always fun to cry why no one does anything, when you support something you want to get rid of. And i don't like it either, that jobs run to China or India.

More and more people think this way, globalization was a big mistake. Capitalism sucks too.

"So, the threat isn't China, it's the capitalist." I think both are.

Why do we need to buy t-shirts made by kids in China, freedom of trade is not an reason, and I tend to avoid "made in china" products even if that's more and more difficult to avoid buying chinese products.

Companies that go produce in dumping countries should be closed dow and protectionism laws should be taken, I'm definitely anti-globalization. That's a point of view you can have yours, but we're more and more people thinking the world went the wrong way.

Apparently, you can't delete comment boxes in firefox :(

Anyhow, companies are putting assembly and labor intensive jobs in China.  The tech that goes to China are generally last gen, because it's not as valuable and can lower manufacturing costs.  Corporations (unless they are Chinese company) are very adament about keeping leading edge IP out of China because of the piracy issue (how many 65nm semiconductor plants are in China? None).  China is catching up fast, but is still quite behind the leading edge, so "stealing" tech (one man's stealing is another man's sharing without consent) is very much real.

This is also the real reason why they don't want western standards, so that they don't have to steal if they are the source.  They don't want reliance on foreign tech, so they make their own or take it so it becomes theirs.

btw, I am Chinese.

It's harder to find something that is NOT made in china... I think 99% of wal-marts stuff is made in china (just a guess)

Ok. The thing i was meaning, was that companies are increasing, besides manufacturing, also their R&D to countries like China and India. And if i remember correctly, China is starting to have top universities. Infact, i think the Shanghai university is at the moment doing more researches than any other university in the world, or i could also be wrong about that. Globalisation isn't necessarily bad thing, it's all about the rules, by which it is done. Anyway, there has been global trade for hundreds of years now.
