Not sure what  you want from him , apart from RAM size the official Vita specs have been released, and its spec is well above that of the 3DS in terms of processing power, graphical power, controller input features and faster wireless, so value for money your clearly getting alot more.

Now when it comes to which has the better games we will have to wait and see, but again this will be down to preference, i know im really enjoying my DS at the moment, but i also will be getting a Vita beofre a 3DS, for me 3DS needs to drop to £150 and come in white and i still might weight for the inevitable first hardware revision with better battery life. 

i mean games for the most part, but hey you can argue that some people got more out of the ds than the psp even though the psp was more capable (though i got more outta my psp).

If we are talking about games then that should be left out. the psvita isn't out and the 3ds hasn't even been out for a year yet.

I think that's a good rule to go by. I got the DS six months after launch and the Wii less than a year after launch. In both cases I feel like I should've waited at least another year if not more. The Wii in particular, I feel, didn't accumulate enough good games and also start to have a better quality of consistent releases until 2009.
For the DS I had enough good games to play at the time, since I was visiting Japan in 2005 and got a lot of niche stuff that didn't make it to the west until later (if at all), but I still would have preferred the lite to the phat

But.....I did put it in the OP.  It was one of the reasons why you should wait (reason #5)!

When I finished reading the "why you need a 3DS now" list I was ready to hit the street and pay lots of money for it (almost U$S 500 in Argentina), even if it meant robbing a bank and using my portable at jail.
But then again, when I finished your "why you should wait" list I felt like waiting, like there was no sense in getting it now.
