Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii Has The Best Exclusives

" July 4, 2011, by Carl B. - This generation has seen fantastic multi-platform releases, more than any other set of consoles in the past. Games like Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, and Call of Duty have dominated the multi-platform space on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo's Wii has been left out in the dark due to hardware restrictions; however, it has the best exclusive titles compared to the other two systems.

Early on in the Wii's life, developers tried to release Wii versions of games that were specifically made for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It didn't really work well – Activision, for instance, brought over their yearly Call of Duty titles, and the quality of the games were incredibly low. Once developers found out they'd have to make games for Wii from the ground up, things started to take off.

The following games are all Wii exclusives, and do not include ports (Twilight Princess) or compilations (Metroid Prime Trilogy). These games are also critically acclaimed – there won't be any cult hits on here that scored low on various media outlets (Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon).

Super Mario Galaxy

At the time of its release, Super Mario Galaxy was the highest rated console exclusive to release this generation. It's currently the second highest scored Wii game on Metacritic, having received many perfect scores in its lifetime.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

In 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 passed up its predecessor as the highest rated console exclusive. It's simply an amazing game – I'd go as far as to say it's the best game to release this generation. Galaxy 2 received a ridiculous amount of perfect scores, notably from outlets that rarely hand the honor out.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Retro Studios, of Metroid Prime fame, was tasked with reviving another dormant Nintendo franchise: Donkey Kong Country. There aren't any Kremlings, but Donkey Kong Country Returns is one of the best looking and hardest games to release exclusively for Wii. The game was so difficult that I died 14 straight times on one mine cart level. Going through the game without dying once is next to impossible.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Metroid Prime 3 was the first game to show just how great aiming with IR controls works (Red Steel was a massive failure at that). The world of Prime 3 isn't as compelling as the first Prime title, but it's another great adventure as Samus Aran and an excellent way to close off the critically acclaimed trilogy.

Metroid: Other M

Other M catches a lot of flak due to the voice acting, which is well deserved. However, that doesn't stop the fact that it's a great action title, even if it does throw out many of the mechanics that makes the Metroid series so great. It may not be completely deserving of being Super Metroid's sequel, but it's still an essential Wii title.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Brawl was easily the most anticipated release of 2008. The game isn't perfectly balanced and online is pretty much broken, but nothing beats Brawl's robust list of characters, stages, and excellent local multiplayer. It's the deepest game in the series, and one Wii game that is still played frequently today.

Monster Hunter Tri

I can't explain enough about how much I love this game. Monster Hunter Tri is absolutely gorgeous, with highly detailed textures and super smooth animations. What makes the game so great, though, is the sheer replay ability of the title. It came out in April of 2010, and I'm sitting at 206 hours played. I haven't even reached the final quest tier online yet.

Goldeneye 007

Goldeneye 007 isn't a simple remake of one of the greatest shooters of all time; it's a complete re-imagining of one of the greatest shooters of all time. Goldeneye for Wii is a faithful, yet inventive take on the Nintendo 64 original, down to the local multiplayer and Oddjob's broken character model. It's also the best shooter on Wii, not counting the Metroid Prime games.

Disney Epic Mickey

Epic Mickey is Warren Spector's take on the classic Disney universe, only with a twist: it takes place in a world of forgotten Disney characters. The Disney veterans will recognize many locations and characters in the game, but that's not just what Epic Mickey is about. It's a mesh of several different genres: 3D platformer, 2D platformer, and open world RPG.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Here are more great Wii exclusives, with their Metacritic score next to them:

Super Paper Mario – 85
Little King's Story – 87
No More Heroes – 83
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle – 84
Kirby's Epic Yarn – 86
Mario Kart Wii – 82
Boom Blox – 85
Boom Blox Bash Party – 86
LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias – 86

There are also some excellent Wii exclusive titles that have already been released in Japan and are coming to Europe, such as Xenoblade, and some games that scored high in Japan but aren't being localized:

Xenoblade (European localization confirmed)
The Last Story (No localization confirmed. Score a 10/10/9/9 on Famitsu)
Pandora's Tower (No localization confirmed)
Earth Seeker (No localization confirmed)
Tales of Graces (PS3 version is being localized)
Zangeki no Reginleiv (No localization confirmed)

If you're one of the few gamers who don't own a Wii, or one of the many that dislike the system due to your own personal bias, this article should teach you one thing: while it may not have the big mutli-platform titles, it blows the PS3 and Xbox 360's exclusives out of the water.

Disagree? Go to our comments section below and let us know what PS3 or Xbox 360 exclusive is better than Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Monster Hunter Tri. While you're at it, go ahead and name the top ten exclusives on both PS3 and Xbox 360. I'm not saying there aren't any good ones – I love Uncharted 2 – but when they're compared side by side, it's obvious that Wii has the strong library of exclusives. "

personally i think this article is garbage as i could just as easily list top rated xbox 360 or ps3 exclusives and claim they have better exclusives, what about you guys

You forgot about the best one!!!

Definitely not, naming a few games isn't enough, not all of those games are that great either.

It was on the GC as well as the Wii.

I agree that the Wii has the best exclusives of the home consoles this gen.  In a few months, I can add Xenoblade Chronicles to my list of awesome Wii exclusives, many claim it is the best RPG this gen.

Sure, you could claim that the 360 and PS3 have better exclusives, but you would be wrong. Other than pure subjectivity you would have nothing to back it up.

its a fact that the ps3 and 360 have more high rated exclusives ( by that i mean above a score of 70 ) and thats excluding the multiplats

edit : look at the year so far ps3 titles :

killzone 3 ( 84 ), lbp 2 ( 92 ), infamous 2 ( 83 ), yakuza 4 ( 79 ), motorstorm 3 ( 77 ) etc the 360 hasn't really released much in the way of exclusives this year but later on theres gears 3, halo anniversary etc

then theres the fact that move support has enabled some of the best third party exclusives to be ported from wii to ps3 like no more heroes and house of the dead

lol. I disagree. Even if it does have the best exclusives *which it doesn't imo*. No one can deny that its missing out on third party + amazing DL games that wii only users will never see.

Sure, all those games are great. But to call them "best exclusives" is rather ridiculous to me.

The Uncharted series, inFamous 2, Killzone series, Ratchet and Clank series, Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Shadow Complex, Gran Turismo 5, Forza series, God of War 3, Fable series, Halo series, and many other titles exclusive to the PS3 or Xbox 360 are just as good as the ones mentioned there.

As far as I'm concerned, I have as much fun with those as I have with the ones that I own among the games pictured up there.

So no, the Wii doesn't really have the "best" exclusives. All 3 consoles have their good share of great titles exclusive to them, and I don't really have more fun playing the Wii ones as I do the others.

It may depend on your own taste. But judging by how much the 3 systems now offer something for every kind of gamer, I don't really see how someone can say one system is truly better than the others, other than by going by some deluded "allegiance". It's all a matter of taste, of course, but even then, all game styles are represented on the other systems as well.

So in the end, it boils down to whether or not you are attached to the names of the games rather than their game types. Nintendo has Metroid. But if you'd like the game style over the name attached to it, you'd know that the 2 other systems have that game style in a game called Batman Arkham Asylum. ;)

Right, because a list of this length cannot be made for either 360 or PS3. Nope, definitely not.

this is so true

also, Other M is awesome, and Little King's Story is a complete masterpiece, much better than most HD shooters

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
