Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated.

Hopefully Nintentdo, Sony and Microsoft will understand that not everyone wants some gimmicky controller like the move, wii+tablet or a kinect. At least those 70 milion (or whatever the "HD twins" sold) who bought a 360 or ps3 before the move and the kinect were introduced.

Sounds like an awful lot unless they start selling it at the beginning of 2012, which seems a bit unplausible given the lack of an announcement.

yeah 20M is not a likely forecast.... unless they want to all lose their jobs after severely under performing the forecasts given to shareholders when they announce it.

Dumbest. article. ever.
Sony was/is in talks with FC/PT about increasing manufacturing numbers for their PS Vita. Due to insufficient capacity, the PS Vita will not launch world-wide this year. Particularly the months before Xmas season, the manufacturing lines are fully accounted for. For new stuff, mass manufactured, the contracts are usually done 2-3 years before actual production sets in (which includes ordering all parts as well). If there were any talks about a potential PS4, this would point to a late 2013 release of such a thing (which is in line with industry estimates that sub-30nm mass manufacturing won't be cost effective until mid-2013 for console manufacturers.
