Forums - General Discussion - majority to become the minority in the United states bye 2050

http://articles.cnn.com/2008-08-13/us/census.minorities_1_hispanic-population-census-bureau-white-population?_s=PM:US ----link. Posting in another thread, gave me the idea for this thread. It's expected that the majority, which is the white person is to become the minority in America bye 2050. The hispanic popultation is expected to make up over %54 of the population bye this time. This personally does'nt matter to me,but I just thought this interesting. So,what do you think of this giving the sometimes dark history of race relations in America? So,what do you guy think of this. I hope this thread doesn't get locked, but I figured I'd give it a try.

It says 54% of the population will be minorities, not Hispanics.

I'm not sure why a white Hispanic is automatically considered non-white by virtue of their... Hispanicness. The people who run the census are fucking stupid.

Okay,I mis-read that part. I'm to lazy to edit. lol

Imagine if we could go back 100 years and tell that to these guys...

...They wouldn't believe you.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does that mean my children's children will get little extras for being minorities?

To be fair, they are hard to racially classify in the first sense (La Raza, and all, a historical blend between Whites and American Indians), and they are more distinctly identifiable than "Whites." I mean some people from Central/South American countries are straight-up white or purely Indian, but the vagaries in the middle really define the bulk of them

Not really. You can check more than one race, so if you're mestizo, you'd check White and American Indian. A plurality of Mexican-Americans identify as white alone, but according to the census bureau that means fuck all. They'll be told what race they are by their betters. The fact that a blonde haired, blue eyed Aryan wet dream can check the extra little Hispanic box and automatically become non-white makes this inaccurate to the point of meaninglessness. Therefore, I suggest we throw Italians and Greeks and everyone else who's a little too dark complected out of the Brotherhood of Whiteness and become a minority-majority nation right now so people can shut the fuck up about it.

I agree that the current system is overly broad in categorizing hispanics (defining them strictly through their region of origin in spite of actual racial background), but i'll disagree in that i still contend that Mestizo is a race all its own at this point (because yes, while people of mixed race exist, this is a whole race of mixed-race people that essentially sustains itself), though that would only apply to proper Mestizos and not (to use the old colonial parlance) Creoles or Central/South American Indians proper

Sure, but the answer would be to add a mestizo racial category. Assuming all Hispanics are mestizo, even if they tell you they're white (or black, or whatever), is wrong. Argentina is the whitest country in the hemisphere (and probably the world). If we transplanted their entire population of 40 million to the USA, we wouldn't cease to be majority white any sooner - quite the contrary.

Wrong wrong wrong! Take my extended family for example, we might be mixed but our White DNA is between 65-100%

In my own family, my mom is white, and so are 2 of my sisters. One is yellow and I am tanned. You can't say mestizo is a race because the whole concept is wrong. No one is 50/50 exactly to white and Indian. Mexico including the rest of LATIN AMERICA is also home to AFRICANS! So black blood runs in too. 2nd President of Mexico was black like Obama!

So how is mixed a race? Sometimes you will meet someone who is Mexican and you will mistaken them for being white! There is so much diversity in us. My dad has green eyes, and is tanned. My mom's side had blue eyes. Since I am tanned, people will automatically assume I am Latino. That diversity is why it would be so hard to be specific that's why the census calls white americans Non-Hispanic whites and that's why you won't see white/mixed/black in the Latino/Hispanic option.
