Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 720 reveal at E3 2012, in dev since 2006 - report

Eurogamer

Another report claiming Microsoft will announce its next home console at E3 2012 has emerged.

According to a BGR.com source "with knowledge of Microsoft’s plans within the company’s Entertainment and Devices Division," Microsoft will unveil the next Xbox at June 2012's showcase game event.

The next Xbox has been in development since 2006, apparently. The Xbox 360 launched in 2005.

Crysis 2 developer Crytek believes an E3 2012 reveal is "likely", according to reports.

TimeSplitters 4, powered by CryEngine 3, is apparently in development for the new machine.

At E3 this month programming legend John Carmack told Eurogamer the next-generation of home consoles will be ten times as powerful as the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

In March new job listings suggested Microsoft was ramping up development of its next generation Xbox console. The evidence seemed to suggest that the system is so early in development that the graphics hardware at the very least hadn't been locked down.

"The next-generation will be here soon, a couple of years," Carmack told Eurogamer.

Seems about right.

E3 2012 will be interesting all round, I expect a 2013 release.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

So Nintendo in 2012 and Sony & MS probably in 2013.
I wouldn't have minded if the generation lasted 2 years longer all in all, but I guess it can't be helped.

I'm predicting
Sony for 2013 E3 and 2014 release and Microsoft 2012 E3 and 2013 release.

All seems reasonably likely, with a launch in first half of 2013 being likely and November 2012 or 2013 being the earliest and latest. I worry slightly for MS if they do make it that powerful, but I'm sure they'll pull through.

I hope so. Cause i swaer if i see another CoD after MW3 this gen then i'll :@ ... I also hope that Sony will jump on and announce their new system atleast in the same year. If Microsoft gets a massive headstart again then i don't think this will turn out too good for Sony.

thats outright stupid^^

all consoles will be coming next year. they WON'T let each other get a year head start. WILL NOT HAPPEN. end of thread

yeah well if it's been in dev since 2006 it doesn't mean it can't be out in 10 years from now.... they have RROD extensiv testing to do remember.... they have to have some of those boxes run at least 3 years non stop with final specs first :P

MS didn't plan for RROD to happen (I don't think anyway!) but they started making profits in the E&D division in late 2007, that was with the 1 Bill RROD pay off earlier that year. I think MS made the 360 break even/profitable relatively early.

With people still paying for XBL on the 360, any losses on 720 can be offset. So I think they'd be willing to take a loss. They regularly making about $600 mill in the E&D per Q now.
