Short version: Over population by 2040 causing famines round the world, food production being the new 'oil', by this time more modern and efficient forms of fuel are used for electricity. Countries that are rich in food production and vast arable land, not oil will be the new worlds strong ecomonies. So China (stable after good population control) and USA being the main 2. Countries like UK, France and Germany decline as too dependent of service industries and oil rich countries now will decline due to other means of energy production so will become more dependent of food production countries.

India's population will explode but while food production here is high it won't be able to sustain itself due to bad population control.

Countries like Ukraine with it's vast fertile land will become a lot stronger via international investment and low population growth (currently it's declining) and food exports by 2055.

2060 the world will be more sustained but more investment will be put into space exploration.

Hmm, pie.

Ummm, isn't France the 3rd biggest exporter of agricultural products in the world? And you are aware that most EU states sustaining their own food needs (or exporting foods to eachother)? Plus, considering the low birth rates in European countries, isn't it more likely that famine will affect poorer countries that will be hit be overpupulation more roughly, due to their high birth rates, and their inability to meet their food needs (such as African countries or South American countries)?

If nuclear war doesn't happen, then I reckon that life will be somewhat similar to how it is now. By the year 2040 there would have been countless amounts of money put into more reliable renewable energy, and that shouldn't be a problem in the far future.

You know, I really do wish they'd change the Forum buddy so it changes colours when I'm quoted. I used to know but they remove the older version and added the cool new buddy with less features...oh well.

Anyway, maybe France was a bad example but France is running itself into dept with it's health service, which swayed my opinion of it's status. My theory is that many of Westen countries with low population growth (I'm taking UK as my main example) import vast amounts of food from other countries. If these countries have a high population, the importance of shipping that produce abroad to rich western countries when they can keep it to feed their people instead of staving will be a new importance as in the long run it's better to keep a population to be able to produce the food to sell to the rich nations anyway.

The shortage of food exports in a major food producer because of the inability to feed their own people enough will affect western countries from buying food. I do not believe the UK in it's current state cannot sustain it's own population based on it's own food production.

I think that makes sense. I have my thinkings but it's the future it's hard to predict.

The UK is also a bad example, as it sustains 60% of it's food needs. Also, European states mainly import from eachother and export from eachother, and they have the capacity to sustain the needs of the continent without importing from other continents (agriculture is quite possible and practiced in all European states, and they also use modern agricultural methods). Add the low population growth and you won't have a problem.

The countries most affected by overpopulation are the underdeveloped ones, as they have high birthrates and lack the capacity to assure their food needs, regardless of what resources they have (lack of technology, poverty etc.). Famine is already a problem over here, and it will take decades for things like democracy, education, secularism and liberalism to reach these countrie, and finally people start being more responsable regarding reproduction.  The main problem that Europe could face (and also the US) are military attacks from these poor countries who want to steal their food.

60% is certainly low enough to worry about sustainability if the food exporting countries decide they need it for themselves, unless as you say the exports/imports of food more or less balance out.

As for attacking us for our food, it sounds like you are suggesting some kind of raid would take place where they send in troops that literally sack warehouses etc.  IMO that is totally impractical.  They would have to invade to take over the food producing areas.  Unless they were somehow incercepting huge food shipments on a regular basis, nothing else would be regular enough and large enough to support a nation's population.

Well apparently this upcoming solar maximum (2013) is going to be very weak. If it's as weak as the Maunder Minimum ( 1645 to 1715 ) then we should start to see colder winters, because (this is my basic knowledge) less solar flares passing through our atmosphere means more cosmic rays can enter instead, creating more clouds... thus leading to colder temperatures. So yeah, we could be entering a mini ice age... XD that's the only apocalyptic scenario I can think of. Other than that I think we'll be pretty good for a few more decades. I'm one of those people who thinks that we're doing rather well considering the population is well over 6 billion. 6 billion people, each with a different view of how the world should be.... yeah it could be a lot worse.
