Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted Impressions...

The whole auto-heal is probably worth a real debate. I understand (and agree) that its purely a gameplay mechanism - and that games shouldn't try to mirror the real world completely. But I did think that it didn't feel right in the context of this game.

Just like in a game like RE4 (unless Leon was infected with something that caused the autoheal), I would feel that it was used out of context.

...

So you'd rather have random pots of herbs lying about? Doesn't really make much sense contextually either. However, it does work gameplay-wise. The fact that you have to find health in RE4 makes the game feel more stressful. The tradeoff is that not many threatening enemies get thrown at you in RE4 because it's harder to heal.

That's not what they were going for in Uncharted. Naughty Dog wanted to send more enemies with greater more threatening skills at you to create that Hollywood action flik feel.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Im flabbergasted. This thread shouldn't even exist. Its more laid out as an atempt/excuse to shy possible customers away from the game. Well then again if those potential customers would believe that then they aren't very knowledgeble.

Either way, this thread is hilarious.

Lol, no offense, but that review was pretty bad.

Here's my SMG review after watching it for 30 minutes:

Mario's hat is too shiny
Mario is too overweight
The gravity is not precise to real life
Mario is stealing stars without remorse

Very disappointing.

Sadly, this reads very much like shams review.

@Shams

Firstly, to say that your impressions are not biased I believe is being perhaps a bit naive. Watching someone who clearly didn't like the game, and was struggling, as you said, will likely slant your view.

Secondly, to say that this isn't 'true next-gen' is a bit unfair. Not every game can be innovative in gameplay mechanics. Most great games fine tune already existing gameplay. Personally, I think that the mixture of the different mechanics in Uncharted mesh quite well.

Thirdly, this comes off to me as Jack Thompson's review, what with all the focus and complaining on the violence. I kid, of course!

Also, I can't argue what you thought of the game, but I can't understand why you'd give a game a 7-8 when you have only listed technical graphics achievements as the 'goods' of the game.

I honestly didn't think it really makes sense. "True next-gen"? That's more vague than "hardcore" gamer, or "AAA" game. As for scoring impressions, frankly don't get that either. =/

I give it 9/10 at the moment. I've just got to the plot 'twist' (which I saw coming. what I didn't see coming was how it completely changes how you play the game, which is excellent - no more of that cover system you hate so much mr. shams).

Most of your criticisms do have a genuine basis but are stretched to breaking point with hyperbole and bias.

That really freaked me out, although I had "accidentally" found out about it before I got to that part of the game, but it was still a big change.

All those things listed above are minor flaws shams. You've watched one level of the game and written a review based on it. Fine, but it is a waste of time because the game is extremely cinematic. It is a straight a ladder in terms of linearity, but that is because it a very story driven game. It is meant to be the action hero saves the day and gets the girl afterwards, that sort of over the top "pulp-action" game (as Evan Wells described it). The violence would make much more sense if you had started at the beginning, they are the ones who start shooting him, it's called self defense. My only niggle with the game is that on normal it is too hard, I played the second half on easy because I was immersed in the story and didn't want to die so much, and that it becomes too dark towards the end of the game, literally and metaphorically.

Too many enemies - yeah, it should be stealth action game...   and you don't like fact rocks are wet in the jungle... ok. I'm sure Disaster will fullfill all your advanture needs...

You should create weekly PS3 review section... with twesterm

Drake should also die with only one bullet and you should not be able to restart. The rocks should also be convered in plastic to make sure they don't get wet, but then they might still be shiny!!

I think Game Informer put it best

"It’s a fun, fast, and memorable thrill ride, and perhaps the closest video games have come yet to approximating the experience of an interactive summer blockbuster."

I give this thread two thumbs up!

Yes and if someone went on the nintendo forum and posted something similar but bashing SMG I have no doubt they would get banned. This is clearly a flaim bait thread and I expected better from shams.

This is an excellent game. I just finished it yesterday and it was the best single player game i've played yet. Its probably my second favourite ps3 game after Call of Duty 4.

And he's not a murderer, his kills are all self defence. He isn't fighting average treasure hunters, he's fighting just about everything from cursed Spaniards to highly trained soldiers with M4's to crazy black islanders with Kalashnikov's.

Also if you played it, not just watch for 1/2 hour you'd see its not just constant shooting 24/7, its a lot of adventure and stuff like climbing, jumping, running, etc.

I give it a solid 9.3

Thank you for someone finally posting their opinion, and saying that it differs to mine (and giving examples).

I can only post impressions based on what I saw. If/when one day I end up playing (completing) the game, I'll post some more in-depth impressions (+ a review).

I think we must have been stuck in an annoying part of the game (my mate died at *least* 10 times trying to do the bit he was doing), and I can only assume that it wasn't representative of the entire game. There were "platforming" bits, but they seemed more like a forced distraction than anything else.

Shams how can you act like the bigger man after making a huge mistake like this?
youre actually saying that everyones at fault in this thread except you and TurdFergusonMcGee.
i know people make mistakes, but atleast admit it.
im sorry to ask this but, dont you have any shame?

i would think that people arent giving you a proper debate because you dont deserve one
in this particular topic...
