Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Around the Network

I haven't played uncharted so I'm not going to comment on the quality of the game, but for the people wondering why it sold so poorly in comparison to a game like Gears of War I have a few things to say to that ...

Ever since they entered the market in 2001, Microsoft has really focused on building a platform that appeals to the online shooter fan; I don't think anyone will dispute that the XBox 360 has more shooters, that (generally speaking) contains better online gameplay, than any other console on the market today. Gears of War was THE online shooter game on THE online shooter console for 6 to 9 months and that is why it sold so well.

The other reason is marketing ... If you watched anything that was stereotypically for 13 to 30 year old males you were bombarded by commercials for Gears of War for months after its release; and the commercials were (in my opinion) brilliant. Uncharted has fairly good comercials that are not really targeted towards anyone, and it isn't being pushed nearly as hard as Gears of War was.

There are other factors (Gears of war looking like the first "Next Generation Game" and the Wii and PS3 being unavailable at the time of its release) but I think I hit two key issues.

i see how this works. we are highly critical towards the things we dislike, and much more forgiving with the things we like.

Hilarious joke. Shams You should be ashamed of yourself. You are the only person who has said that they don't like this game. then to call the game "stoopid"? What a fanboy... :( I would have expected more from a mod. I'm so disappointed in you, I don't know what else to write. Just simply disappointed. Only a seven or ann eight at most? Wow. To downgrade the graphics shows how much of a anti-sony person you are. Your impressions weren't critical, they were biased. :(

Well, first of all, opinions are biased, period.  That's the point of something being a personal opinion.  Myself, I took this as an invitation to discuss the points he brought out.  Why don't more people share their views of the game point by point instead of just agreeing with "stoopid" or just saying it's "great!" ??

Personally, I couldn't disagree more with this assesment of Uncharted.  In all the podcasts I've heard, reviewers have been bemoaning the fact it didn't sell more and calling it one of the best games of the year.  I haven't seen this bit about "wet" graphics.  They look great to me.  Certainly better than most everything else I've seen.  Not as realistic and lifelike as COD4, but just as good, in a different artistic sense.  Explosions not being good....I'm dumbfounded at that.  Especially in things like the jeep escape sequence, it's like you're in a damn pulp adventure movie yourself!  Tires and scraps of metal flying by you as you blow vehicles up.  I think that graphically, Uncharted is definitely one of the best games I've ever seen.

I personally don't like games that are all platforming and puzzles.  There was a lot of shooting in Uncharted, but I didn't mind it at all. I liked the way the action was broken up with some lighter platforming kinds of activities.  Again the level of detail and the execution of the movements and animation in this game was incredible.  Should be one of the pictures under the dictionary definition of "polished."

In any case, taste is very individual and subjective.  I'm not surprised whenever I see a lot of "this is great" or "this sucks" comments on games.  From Uncharted to Halo, there's plenty of people who truly do have legitimate negative or positive views of those games.  It's just hard for people, when they feel a certain way about a product (especially positively) to accept that others CAN have true and valid for them negative views of the same thing.
