why are alot of acer, asus, hp, dell, samsung, sony etc etc laptops are so fat and ugly compared to the beatiful looking but very overpriced macbook pro. 

I am looking to add an laptop to the mix and the only one i have been looking at is the macbook pro because i really dig the looks. But being apple the device is over priced by about 500 dollars compared to equally as powerful compeitior laptops. 

Which brings to me to my major point as to why haven't these companies Ripped off the design yet and improved on it??? 

Looking at my HTC desire, its an iphone rip off but its has its own great looks. Also why is all laptops Black or brown, how about some white laptops or silver like apple. Goddam it i want an apple esk type laptop with windows and not overpriced. Why haven't asus made my dream an reality. 

It's got the Apple logo on it which makes it better looking, better design, and allowed to be priced more.

Anyway OP, if you want a Mac-style Windows laptop, buy an HP. It's shiny and will fail on you, just like a real Mac! You'll save $1000, too!

Have you actually held a Macbook Pro in your hand? Most other laptops simply don't compare. It's extremely thin (about half the thickness of most laptops) it's sturdy and made out of aluminum. The current Macbook Pro has kept its look for 3 years now and the reason why some laptops look almost identical is because most manufacturers got a notebook line that copies the look of a Macbook Pro. You can't see a big difference on pictures but when you actually use one you feel it is an extremely high quality product.

@OP: When you want lots of power you shouldn't go for a Macbook Pro. It's more like an allrounder, pretty good at everything. It's got decent specs but you pay mostly for the design, the long battery life (which is actually 7 hours - it's not just marketing), backlit keyboard, aluminum and all those bells and whistles they put in.

I say this in every Macbook Pro thread I post in: When I bought mine everyone made fun of me. And now they all want one as well.

Apple Laptops rank fourth in durability. Not groundbreaking but hardly anything to complain about. And Apple's customer service is actually decent.

Considering that certain people talk about Macs as if they were indestructable, and bearing in mind the price, fourth place is a pretty poor showing.

Apple's customer service should to be decent. They get a lot of practice, after all.
