Forums - Sales Discussion - Could PS VITA OUTSELL 3DS In Lifetime Sales? Or Will Nintendo Keep Its IRON GRIP On the Handheld Market?!

Who will win the handheld gaming system battle?

Playstation Vita 135 36.68%

Nintendo 3DS 212 57.61%

Nintendo will win the bat... 13 3.53%

SONY will win the battle,... 8 2.17%

Total:368

People may be under-estimating the American market for VITA only IF COD online on vita is advertised as a huge on the go cool thingy.

Children in high school playgrounds will play COD online during lunch times....if sony can make this happen Americas will be Vita's

**Yes none of that will probably happen**

I think Nintendo will loose the battle this year and maybe half of next year. Casuals and many gamers just don't see a reason to upgrade to a 3DS. But next year I suspect Nintendo will cut the 3DS price by 50$ making it 199.99$, stop supporting DS and with alot of heavy hitting titles take back the lead from Sony.

I think Nintendo over under estimates the casuals. A casual gamer isn't about to shell out 250$ for a handheld when their are still good games coming. Also alot of casuals don't even realize 3DS is a new console alot of them think that its a 3D DS. Then theirs the core gamers but right now the software just isn't their and for a price of 250$ alot of them are turned off.

But a good price cut, some new games and a reduction to DS support coupled with good marketing will take 3DS back above Vita.

Also the hype for Vita isn't even as big as the hype for 3DS was. If were going by hype PSP:Vita is dead in the water.

I expect this war to be much closer then the DS VS PSP war was. Sony will actually have a fighting chance if Nintendo screws up even the slightest!

I don;t get this. Did they OVERestimate them, or did they UNDERestimate them?

To say it has no chance would be foolish. I think if marketed right sony has a chance. From the eyes for normal buyers the 3DS looks very much like a new DS model and will be hard for nintendo to advertise as you cant "show" 3D in an ad without it looking very stupid :P It needs to be seen in first hand to be understood and will likely come down to word of mouth. If Sony can push Vita hard enough they could establish Vita enough that word of mouth wont be enough to push the 3DS ahead.

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

Vita hands down.

Gilga, you are really not worried about downgraded high profile game franchiases from the PS3? Sony needs to get a lot more games like Patapon or Locorocco etc. with good advertisement and a more global appeal in whacky ass games for it to sell to the masses, I mean a ton more, and from 3rd parties as well, they don't have the same image that Nintendo has already built, and what if Capcom and Nintendo do have an agreement on Monster Hunter down the road, 3DS is perfectly capable of a good Monster Hunter game now unlike the DS, what happens to Japan then? Sony has a lot of hurdles to overcome.

I don't understand this only console IP on PSV mentality...it's just rediculous..it's almost as if no one has even seen the line up of games for the device >_>

I'm obviously aware of what they have, but if they want to stand above Nintendo, they have a lot of reimage to do. Looking at how well something like Brain Age sold is borderline ridiculous, it's not graphics intensive, not super whacky, it's just a straight up...... global game, Nintendo is just better at making global mass appeal games than Sony ATM. People want to play something like Uncharted or Call of Duty on a big ass screen with good stereo and huge explosions offering orgasms to your eyes, that's not something a 5 inch screen can offer, so they need more portable games that can drag people in, and that's the real hard part considering only Japan is really buying the PSP right now.

Maybe, too early to tell.

Above: still the best game of the year.

You talk about new IP?

Do you don't know sony announced 8 new Ip all are casual game exept gravity daze and gelding

Real Fighters

Little Deviant

Mr. Ink Jet

Smart As

Broken

Sound Shapes

And then you say sonuy need new Ip sony need casual games.

And when people say my favorite it's uncharted golden abyss that prouve you are wrong people want good game it dosn't metter if games are new ip or port or casual or hardcore games

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Honestly I think we are going to see a bid drop on both of these handhleds over there predecessors. They both have high price tags for a portable machine and phone and tablet games have seriously grown since the DS and PSP launched.

I just think its a loseing battle for them but we'll see. Vita could possibly see some good success for the hardcore gamers but I don't really see much reason for a more casual person to pick one up. 3DS at least has those mass market titles like Mario, Zelda, and such which the Vita, and really Sony as a whole lacks.

So I guess final prediction from me is that 3DS outsells Vita in the end but neither see an increase in marketshare compared to the previous systems and in fact see quite a drop in marketshare.

read bold, and I don't care about Golden Abyss one bit, I care about Drake's Deception. Same reason I don't play God of War stuff on PSP, the scale is too different. If the PSV is the only system somebody'll have though, sure, go for it. People have this hard on with Uncharted anything now, it's horrible, the real goods are the devs in ND. I've played Resistance Retribution, I'm not impressed by the studio making Golden Abyss one bit.

Also, casual games =/= global appeal games, I've never once mentioned "casual," that's a shitty word to describe games just like "hardcore" is a dumb word for games as well. Games are games, they have their genres, casual and hardcore are not fucking genres, that kind of distinction means you don't truly understand video games. "Can Sony change their image to have more appeal to more of the masses in the world?" is the real question, not what people wish to see.
