Forums - Gaming Discussion - You love the main character, and love the game, WHO ARE THEY???

I saw the other thread about which games you love, but hate the main character, and I was thinking it would be funner to do the opposite.

Name a character, you think is freaken awesome, and name which specific game he/she/it made their best appearance. I want to see reasons for why the character made the game so much more kick ass too. I'll start.

Kaim - Lost Odyssey - Just so bad ass. He can't remember the past, but only knows how to fight. As you progress through the game you find out he has actually been a really good guy over his 1,000 year life so far. Quiet, but cool.

Chrono - Chrono Trigger - I just like the way he looks. His character isn't anything special, but the look is awesome.

Bowser - Super Mario RPG - Bowser, is an ally. Tried to force the Princess to merry him, and is overall somewhat softhearted. Never seen this Turtle Koopa Dragon have a soft side, and a tough side, in the same game. Well done.

Marcus - Gears of War 1 - Imprisoned for 14 years because he disobeyed a direct order which would have has his squad dead. Last to be released from prison because his general really hated him for that. Great leader figure, yet has a heart. Cole is funny as hell too.

Drake - Uncharted 2 - Voice actor from Firefly, and in Halo 3 ODST and I believe Reach. Funny connectable character, has great 1 liners when backed into a corner, and is lucky as hell in gunfire. A bit too cocky, bbut funny and great non the less.

Samus Aran - Metroid Prime 1 - A woman whose parents, and home planet were killed/colonized by Space Pirates. Raised by the Chozo who were supposedly whiped extinct by Space Pirates. On a mission to find any surviving Chozo and eliminate the Space Pirates all together. Such a sad and lonely game, Samus is a true soldier, who stops at nothing to get the job done.

Dante - Devil May Cry 3 - Just as awesome punk ass Devil. I don't care if he only pulls out one liners, they are funny as hell, funnier then Drake in Uncharted 2, and with super speed, he makes a mockery out of any human designed weapon (such as riding a rocker around when shot by a rocket launcher).

I said too many already, your turn.

Drake from Uncharted
Lightning from FFXIII
Snake from MGS4 (old guy with buns? Boo yea!)
Ezio from Assassin's Creed 2

That's just so much characters!

Naked Snake from MGS3

Cornelius from Odin Sphere

Etna from Disgaea

Tidus from FFX

Gale from Digital Devil Saga

Akihiko & Mitsuru from Persona 3

Cid from FF VII

Celes & Locke from FF VI

I could go on, but... I must get off the forums!

I'm loving the main characters in most of my favourite games, but the #1 definitely goes to Samus Aran. Samus is my favourite vg character and I just can't imagine playing a Metroid game without her. She's really special in numerous ways.

Some other great ones:
Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog
Lenneth - Valkyrie Profile
Alicia - Valkyrie Profile 2
Cecil - FFIV
Terra and Celes - FFVI

ezio from AC

Drake - Uncharted 2 - Voice actor from Firefly

The actor from Firefly you are thinking of is Nathan Fillion, who is not the voice of Drake; that's Nolan North.

OT:  Really, too many to think of but the ones who come to mind are:

Link from the Zelda series:  Love that he never speaks; instead people who talk to him just respond as if he's answering their questions.  Even when full voice acting is eventually introduced in a Zelda game, I hope this never changes.

Hiryu from Strider:  Just badass!

Samus from the Metroid series:  All appearances except Other M, in which I didn't care for her character.

I also really like Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (very cool character, although his voice acting sucks, but fortunately it's brief) and Drake from the Uncharted series and Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series; they're great characters with excellent voice acting.

Most memorable characters w/ games:

Cloud - FF7
Ezio - AC2
Chrono - CT
Geralt - The Witcher
Link - OOT
Alyx - HL2

Most annoying/forgettable characters:

Tidus - Most annoying main character in the FF series
Samus - Other M (all the sudden turned into the biggest pussy ever)
The Dog - Duck Hunt
Navi - OOT
Every single character in Dynasty Warriors ever

Well I'll be. Still he was a voice actor in Halo 3 ODST, where most other voice actors are from Firefly.

Gustave XIII - SaGa Frontier 2
He was a really memorable and powerful character. A strong, determined character who never let fate hold him back and persevered, and he inspired respect, maybe a little admiration. He had a motivation that was easy to identify with, being acknowledged by others, and growing considerable power that he acquired through his own merit, making him worthy of respect, and having enough style to make him stand out. He is truly one of the most inspiring video game characters i have ever seen.

Luca Blight - Suikoden 2
A little backstory on this awesome badass individual. Strong by nature, he trained and became an inhuman fighter, by far the strongest warrior in the world of Suikoden. He fought at the forefront of his army because no one was capable of killing him, and he enjoyed the slaughter, called his enemies 'pigs' before he killed them. His appearance in the field among the armies was enough to turn back the tide and make you retreat. He is also one of the toughest boss battles in video game history. He was betrayed by his closest advisor and his small squad was ambushed by the hero's army during a night raid. After archers pick off most of his troops, he sets off to fight three squads of 6 characters and fights evenly with them, none of the three successive squads were able to bring him down. After escaping through a forest and happening on a tree lit with fireflies, he was finally spotted by a group of archers, who sprayed him with arrows. After a volley of arrows, a fight against 6 people (with powerful spellcasters), another 6 characters, and finally your strongest 6 characters with your main characters, and another volley of arrows, he still wasn't dead- it took a final duel with the main character to FINALLY kill him. That alone makes him a memorable character and the best video game villain IMO yet.

PS. I wish Konami and Square made more Suikoden and SaGa games... =(
