So VGChartz how important are they to you? When you buy a game do you look at the achievment/trophy list difficulty? If its a decent game, but has a very difficult achievement/trophy list do you even buy it?

I personally pay very close attention to how easy they are to obtain in a game. If a game has mostly very difficult achievements/trophies I do not buy it. Thats just how I am personally. Although, I do enjoy having some difficult achievements for the challenge, but if they are almost all very difficult then I just dont buy the game. I really enjoy them. Also, do you think the adition of them this gen has increased gamer involvment into each game? Let us know.

Trophies wouldn't stop me from getting a game. With that said, I do enjoy a game more when the trophies present a challenge. It's really not fun if you're just getting trophies for inserting the game into your disc tray.

I loved the trophies in Demon's Souls because they forced you to explore every inch of the game and the easiest ones were actually for beating bosses.

EDIT: But then there are some that are just rediculous and off putting... Still can't believe a few of the trophies in Prototype and Confrontation.

If I really want the game then yes I'll buy it regardless of the achievement list anyway (see Portal 2). If it's a game I know I'm going to love then a hard or time consuming achievement list is ideal. If I'm not really fussed on the game then a crap achievement list would completely rule that game out for me though.

I can see what you mean here. There are some games I like that have very difficult achievements, but very few. To me a very difficult achievement list hinders the game's enjoyability to me. But what annoys me most is when games have either most or half multiplayer achievements! Multiplayer achievements can get very annoying.




Honestly yeah they are a big deal to me now days. I'm pretty hooked on them but not to the point where I game JUST for achieves / trophies but they do influence my purchase. Its honestly one of the reasons I still don't have a 3DS and why I'm still thinking I might not get a Wii U. If Nintendo never embraces a similar system I'll probably never buy a Nintendo console ever again.

But that sounds worse than I mean it. Its just now days they've become such a common feature it feels lazy to not implement them. I mean even stuff like Steam and Games for Windows on the PC have achieves so for Nintendo to just blatantly ignore that kind of bothers me. Imagine Smash Bros and Zelda with achievements = awesome.

So pretty much yeah I love Achievements / Trophies cause they extend my gameplay experience, encourage me to try things in games I never would have thought to do the first time, and allow me to track my friends and see what they are playing and how much they've spent with a game.



I never look at the achievement list prior to buying a game.... I do not care about it for my decision on buying a game.... now that said I do try to get them when they make sens and/or are challenging without beingh completely outside the game itself....
I hate when they do a bunch of stupid collectibles just for the sake of achievement....especially if you don't unlock secrets for the story.... like collect all the blue orbs... or get all the dead pigeons... but beside that nothing I hate that and don't even bother trying to get it.....

now if there is a clear up that level without using weapon, or staying on foot, or in less than 2min stuff like that and they are doable in less than a week of practice I always give them a try....

so yeah I don't try to get all of them... I don't care about them when it comes to the purchase decision.... but I'll try to have the one I like for my bragging rights with my friends and to sometimes to have more fun with a game i finished but I really liked....

I think some achievement when well done extend the replayability of a game.... and yet if you don't like it you don't have to do it.... I think they are a great addition to the games in general...

I agree that some games have very time consuming achievements/trophies. One example is Fallout 3 or Mass Effect. But I actually enjoyed those games immensely! I spent countless hours on them, but I do think there is a difference with enjoyable time consuming achievements/tropies and just down right ridiculous achievements/trophies. One example is an achievement in Gears of War 1 called, "seriously". It requires 10,000 kills in multiplayer. ugh. But the ones that are worse are the ones that require to get to the top of a leader board. Those are a crime against gamers I say!

In addition I do agree a game with achievements that are so easy you can get them in an hour make the game seem cheap and ill-valued. One example is, Avatar: burning earth. 5 minutes for 1000 points.




They are a big deal now, I would play a few games over again if they had trophy support. Trophies give more incentive to play a game fully. I would buy a game if it didn't have trophies but I wouldn't play it as much.



Not at all important when buying the game, that would be stupid to base the entire purchase of a game on them.

But I'll try to achieve them once I get a game. Some I don't bother with, I prefer ones that you achieve by playing the game, not grinding the game.

I couldn't agree more about Nintendo not including them. I think they do add more playability to games and enjoyability. I am disapointed that they have not added a system like this to their gaming devices. Do you think they have any effect on sales? or no effect?




I honestly don't give a shit about trophies. I just can't understand why people are so fussed about them, let alone purchasing games for the sole/main reason being trophies/achievements.
