Forums - Nintendo Discussion - shigeru miyamoto wii u not really powerful.

I don't think there is any profit at all in targeting the section of gamer who would be disapointed by this news. The market is too small to consider making design changes for.

Which is to say less than 1% of the people who owned a video game console this gen would be disapointed by this news.

Which is to say that roughly %50 of the people posting on this site will express disapointment in this news.

But it doesn't matter. Start thinking about the U controller and how it might impact peoples lives, I have, and this thing could crush the Wii in terms of becoming a simple part of eveyones day to day life.

hmm if the demo we saw was on underclocked systems and that they are receiving new dev kits with more power then what does this mean?

I don't think the actual game will look as good as that demo (talking Zelda). I remember when everyone was amazed by the Killzone 2 demo back in '06 or '07 and the final product was not as good. The demo that did impress me was the one with bird and the rain (can't remember the name). However, that "game" didn't have much going on it, so it was just there to showcase what the WiiU is capable of doing, though I doubt most games will look that good. It's comparable to Flower, a PSN download game where there isn't much going on so as a result the graphics are amazing.

There is a significant difference, the Killzone 2 demo was a pre-rendered video that was supposed to approximate how the game was going to look on real hardware (in other words, it was 100% PR-BS), the Zelda demo was running in realtime on the show floor on underclocked development kits.

vgchartz users really confused

anyway....sounds like Wii U won't even touch the Wii's success

will have same/less casual support and same/less gamer support...

And nevertheless I'll enjoy the hell out of it!

me too, Nintendo's games is alone make Wii U great

but having to buy only one console wouldn't matter : P

I don't want to buy Wii U and Ps4 for example like Wii and Ps3, i mean just Wii U would be more practical, I just hope Wii U gets the 3rd party games

Yup.

Here is the thing - people keep saying things like "if Nintendo want to recapture the hardcore, Nintendo must do this or that, and now there is no way they will" and "the hardcores will not abandon their PS360 or will just switch to PS4/720 when they arrive", but I think people have it all wrong. Nintendo are not after the PS360 zealot hardcorez. IMO Nintendo just want to recpature those from their former core audience that would have stuck with the Wii (and only the Wii) if it would have had sufficient multiplat 3rd party support. If Nintendo gets with the WiiU all major 3rd party multiplats, with some of them having extra features for the WiiU controller, I believe many core gamers who were Nintendo only will "come back home". Not all of course, and certainly not those who don't care about Nintendo games, but then again those are probably not Nintendo's target anyway, contrary to popular belief...

And to achieve that (as opposed to capturing ALL of the core market), it suffices that the WIiU be on "not dramatically more powerful that PS360". What it does need to be is port friendly, so programmers do not need to rebuild a game from the bottom up whenever they want a WiiU version, and that has already been confirmed.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

very misleading title imo

Trollish title is trollish.

Why don't they give a straight answer?

Other sources (including my eyes) make it seem as though it is more powerful. I reckon it will be, but not a 6th-7th gen jump...

Also, the title is misleading. You make it sound like it just isn't powerful, which it is. A better title would be 'Wii not much more powerful than PS360- Miyamoto'.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Haters gonna hate. Say what you want but Nintendo will be bringing their 87.2 million customers with them, plus a few million more i believe. Super Wii, motion controls, mario games, better 3rd party. Wii U is gonna rock socks.

To add to what HappySquirrel said (and this has been discussed on this site several times over the last two weeks), Nintendo's tech demos always look worse than what the platform can really do. Spaceworld Zelda, the old "100 Marios" and "Marionette" demos from the GameCube era, and quite a bit of the early N64 stuff

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It is obvious that Wii-Ultra is stronger than the PS3/360. Who knows, maybe by a 1/3 all-around.

It would not make sense to be on par, because why would they use such old parts? WiiU came to fruition in 2007. After concept and such it only makes sense they would use parts made somewhat new in that timeframe after development (2008).

Also, we know the PC is the strongest thing on the market and probably always will be over time with new graphics cards and everything. With that in mind, the strongest game on PC right now at MAX settings is probably Crysis. Knowing that this is the limit of PC,we can gauge the limits of consoles.

Until we see things on the PC that are leaps and bounds above Crysis, we cannot expect the same things to be possible on consoles. It usually takes 5+ years for consoles to match up.

For example, this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6bEOMrirz8

used state-of-the-art stuff when it was made on PC in 84'. It was not released until 86', and consoles could not even produce such visuals in a stable way until about 9 years later.
